Aneurysm of the thoracic and abdominal aorta in a patient aged 67 years detected incidentally in pre-anesthesia consultation

open access: yesThe Pan African Medical Journal, 2013
An aneurysm is a localized irreversible dilatation of the aortic wall resulting from an alteration of elastic fibers in the media. The main risk is rupture. It depends on the size and growth rate.

Tubule‐Derived IFN‐α Promotes GSDMD‐Mediated Macrophage Pyroptosis to Drive Renal Inflammation and Fibrosis Through JAK2/STAT2 Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mao and colleagues uncover a STAT2/IRF9‐dependent signaling axis through which tubular epithelial cell (TEC)‐derived IFN‐α induces gasdermin D (GSDMD)‐mediated pyroptosis in macrophages. This TEC‐macrophage feedback loop amplifies renal inflammation and fibrosis, providing mechanistic insight into the progression of chronic kidney disease and revealing

Aortic Arch Width and Cardiovascular Disease in Men and Women in the Community

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2018
Background We sought to determine whether increased aortic arch width (AAW) adds to standard Framingham risk factors and coronary artery calcium (CAC) for prediction of incident adverse cardiovascular disease (CVD) events in community‐dwelling adults ...

Biodegradable Adhesive Systems for Bio‐Integrated Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Biodegradable adhesives provide temporary yet reliable adhesion while degrading into safe, non‐toxic by‐products under physiological or environmental conditions. This review summarizes recent developments in physical and chemical adhesion mechanisms—including hydrogen bonding, catechol chemistry, amine‐carboxyl coupling, and emerging diazirine and urea

Unusual echocardiographic finding leading to diagnosis of pulmonary sequestration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Pulmonary sequestration is an embryonic mass of non- functioning lung tissue that does not communicate with the tracheobronchial tree and has a reported incidence of 0.15%-6.4% of all the pulmonary malformations.

Targeting Endothelial KDM5A to Attenuate Aging and Ameliorate Age‐Associated Metabolic Abnormalities

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies endothelial KDM5A as a key regulator of aging. KDM5A deficiency accelerates aging by enhancing H3K4me3‐mediated FABP4 expression, disrupting fatty acid metabolism, and promoting multi‐organ senescence. KDM5A restoration or FABP4 inhibition reverses these adverse effects and extends lifespan, positioning the KDM5A/FABP4 axis as a ...

Contribution of Gli1+ Adventitial Stem Cells to Smooth Muscle Cells in Atherosclerosis and Vascular Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Gli1+ adventitial stem cells (ASCs) have been thought to generate smooth muscle cells (SMCs) in atherosclerosis. Using a dual‐recombinase lineage tracing to exclude ectopic labeling, Wang et al. found that Gli1+ ASCs do not contribute to SMCs in atherosclerotic plaques.

Nap1L4a Cooperates with Scl/Klf1 to Recruit H2A.Z in Mediating Interactions Among Cis‐Regulatory Elements and Transcription Required for Primitive Erythropoiesis in Zebrafish

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nap1l4a is required in erythropoiesis and hypoxia responses via physical interaction with Klf1 and Scl to recruit the histone variant H2A.Z. This facilitates its associated cis‐regulatory element (CRE) remodeling and the consequent chromatin assembly, and activates the transcription of erythroid lineage‐specific genes.
