Root and arch replacements in acute type A aortic dissection suggest lower risk of open distal reinterventionCentral MessagePerspective

open access: yesJTCVS Structural and Endovascular
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate how different approaches for root and arch management during the first surgery for acute type A aortic dissection impact long-term freedom from reintervention, particularly distal reintervention. Methods: This is a

Selective cerebral perfusion with 4-branch graft total aortic arch replacement: Outcomes in 12 patients

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2012
Background Aortic arch reconstruction is associated with high neurological morbidity. Our purpose is to describe our experience using a 4-branched graft and selective antegrade brain perfusion (SABP) for total aortic arch replacement (TAR).

Nonthermal plasma approaches for combating implant‐associated infections: A compendious review

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Implant‐associated infections pose serious clinical challenges. Non‐thermal plasma (NTP) modifications overcome this bottleneck in distinct ways relative to traditional sterilization methods. Gas‐phase plasmas generate highly energetic species, UV radiation and reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (RONS), which alter the implant surface properties.

Proximal sealing in the aortic arch for inner curve disease using the custom Relay scalloped and fenestrated stent graft [PDF]

open access: yes
Objective: This study aimed to analyze early and midterm results of custom-made proximal scallop and fenestrated stent grafts for thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) with a proximal landing zone (PLZ) in the aortic arch.

Extensive aortic replacement including aortic arch for a mega aorta with chronic aortic dissection via posterolateral thoracotomy

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery
Background Mega-aortic syndrome including aortic arch and descending aortic aneurysm is a challenging surgical case. Because the aorta continuously dilates, creating the distal anastomosis sites becomes an issue.

A case involving a bovine aortic arch contributing to blunt thoracic aortic injury of triple rupture close to the pericardial reflection

open access: yesTrauma Case Reports
A blunt thoracic aortic injury is a fatal condition that often requires emergency surgery. Although injuries to the aortic isthmus are common in trauma patients, the proximal aortic arch often remains intact.

Prediction of coarctation of the aorta in fetuses with transposition of great arteries: Inverted ventricular discrepancy as a predictor of arch repair in TGA

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
Fetal MV/TV ratio offers a simple and reproducible marker of AAO in TGA with a cutoff of ≥ 1.0 accurately predicting the need for arch repair. This simple echocardiographic marker improves prenatal risk stratification and surgical planning, facilitating prenatal counseling. Abstract Introduction Transposition of great arteries (TGA) with coarctation of

Persistent Fifth Aortic Arch Associated with 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome

open access: yes, 2008
Background: Chromosome 22q 11.2 deletion is frequently associated with conotruncal malformations and aortic arch anomalies. This study investigated the association of chromosome 22q 11.2 deletion with clinical manifestations in four pediatric patients ...

Aortic Arch Replacement with Moderate Hypothermia and a Modified Three-PUMP Circuit [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Tehran University Heart Center, 2011
A strategy employing moderate hypothermia for the replacement of the aortic arch is proposed to avoid the complications of profound hypothermic circulatory arrest. Two patients underwent the complete replacement of the aortic arch using three pumps - for
