Aortic Coarctation Repair in the Adult

Journal of Cardiac Surgery, 2014
Aortic coarctation can be repaired surgically or percutaneously. The decision should be made according to the anatomy and location of the coarctation, age of the patient, presence of other cardiac lesions, and other anatomic determinants (extensive collaterals or aortic calcification).

Infrarenal aortic coarctation

Wiener Medizinische Wochenschrift, 2010
Hypoplastic infrarenal aorta or infrarenal aortic coarctation is an uncommon vascular pathology characterized with diffuse stenosis in the infrarenal abdominal aorta. It is a variant of atherosclerotic occlusive diseases. The exact incidence and etiology are not known.

Coarctation of a Right Aortic Arch

Journal of Cardiac Surgery, 2006
Right-sided aortic arch with a concomitant coarctation is an exceedingly rare congenital cardiac anomaly. We report of a 4-year-old boy who presented with a history of a stenotic bicuspid aortic valve who upon further evaluation was found to have a coarctation of a right-sided aortic arch. The frequency with which other anomalies exist in either of the

Aortic Coarctation and Pregnancy

Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, 1972
An 18‐year‐old primigravida was admitted in the seventh month of pregnancy with a diagnosis of pre‐eclampsia, based on a recent rise of the blood pressure up to 175/110 mmHg. Oedema and proteinuria were absent. Examination revealed absent femoral pulses and no measurable blood pressure in the lower limbs.

Reoperation for Aortic Coarctation

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1984
Reoperation for aortic coarctation has become common because of several factors: (1) increased physician awareness that hypertensive cardiovascular disease continues to threaten the prognosis of the patient following coarctectomy and that investigation in some symptomatic individuals after coarctectomy will demonstrate a residual or recurrent ...

Morphogenesis of human aortic coarctation

Experimental and Molecular Pathology, 1967
Abstract The congenital medial lesion of sortic coarctation was studied by light and electron microscopy. In aortas of young infants prominent morphological features of this lesion were interstitial edema, increased ground substance and proliferation of poorly differentiated smooth muscle cells.

Reoperation for recurrent aortic coarctation

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1995
Recurrence of stenosis is a complication of coarctation repair associated with major long-term morbidity. Persistent or exercise-provoked hypertension may indicate recurrent coarctation. Patients failing or not amenable to balloon dilation should be managed surgically.A retrospective chart review was performed.Forty-three patients were identified as ...

Aortic Coarctation

2018
Aortic coarctation consists of a constriction of the aortic arch that causes some degree of aortic arch hypoplasia. The suspicion of coarctation of the aorta must be raised in the presence of a discrepancy in the size of the left heart. However, the false-positive rate is high. There is a high risk for associated anomalies, particularly for cardiac and

An infrarenal abdominal aortic coarctation

Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy, 2004
We describe a case of infrarenal abdominal coarctation in a 44-year-old woman who presented with severe uncontrolled hypertension. She had no signs of lower limb ischemia with normal distal pulses. Electron beam tomography revealed abdominal aortic coarctation extending from the superior mesenteric artery to the inferior mesenteric artery with a ...

Results of stenting for aortic coarctation

The American Journal of Cardiology, 2001
Thisstudy reports the results obtained with stent implanta-tion in young and adult patients with AC.•••Between September 1996 and August 2000, 56stents were implanted in 54 patients with AC (35male, 19 female; age range 8 to 49 years, mean 22 69). AC was defined as a stenosis with a peak-to-peakgradient of $20 mm Hg at rest.
