The role of atherosclerosis in HIV‐associated vasculopathy in young South African stroke patients
Abstract Background HIV‐associated vasculopathy is known to cause stroke in people living with HIV (PLWH). The role of atherosclerosis is unclear. We assessed the aetiology of vasculopathy in PLWH and tested the utility of markers of subclinical atherosclerosis to distinguish atherosclerotic (AV) from non‐atherosclerotic vasculopathy (NAV).

ABSTRACT Obesity and the mismanagement of lipids significantly contribute to the development of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). However, the underlying molecular mechanisms that regulate the metabolic changes and disruptions in lipid balance within HFpEF remain to be fully understood.

Cyclin‐dependent kinase 13 is indispensable for normal mouse heart development
Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common defect in live births. The role of cyclin‐dependent kinase (CDK13) in cardiogenesis and CHD was studied using a transgenic mouse model (Cdk13tm1b) carrying deletion of exons 3 and 4, causing loss of function.

On the mechanisms of brain blood flow regulation during hypoxia
Abstract figure legend Schematic illustration of key hypothesized mechanisms mediating the cerebrovascular response to hypoxia, suggested by the results of studies included in this analysis. Abstract The brain requires an uninterrupted supply of oxygen and nutrients to support the high metabolic needs of billions of nerve cells processing information ...

Abstract The mechanisms of sex differences in cerebrovascular function are not well understood. In this study, we determined whether sex differences in middle cerebral artery (MCA) reactivity are accompanied with changes in cerebral or systemic arterial resistance and stiffness in young adult Sprague–Dawley (SD) rats.

Mechanistic evaluation of ertugliflozin in patients with type 2 diabetes and heart failure
HF patients exhibit counterregulatory adaptations to tubular sodium handling. SGLT2 inhibition shifts systemic volume toward a state of euvolemia, potentially lowering the risk of worsening HF. Abstract The effect of sodium‐glucose cotransporter‐2 (SGLT2) inhibitor ertugliflozin on fluid volume and kidney function was assessed in patients with type 2 ...

Abstract The reactive hyperemia index (RHI) is a marker of peripheral microvascular function influenced by both endothelium‐dependent and independent mechanisms. Myocardial bridging (MB) may impact coronary microvascular function, but its effect on the relationship between RHI and coronary microvascular function remains unclear. In this cross‐sectional
