MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are non-coding RNAs of ~22 nucleotides which act as down regulators of gene expression in the post-transcription level and/or in the translation level. Several studies have shown that the process of their maturation is rather crucial for the development of cardiovascular system thus their regulation (up-,down-) is implicated ...

Surgical management of three diseases of the aortic root has improved considerably in the last 10 years. Results and prognosis are excellent following complete open heart repair of a fistula of a sinus of Valsalva. In supravalvular aortic stenosis surgical mortality is negligible when obstruction is localized.

The assessment of aortic disease
Journal of Atherosclerosis Research, 1964Summary In 220 aortas, the percentage of intimal surface showing disease was estimated by eye, and by tracing and planimetry. Planimetric measurement was reproducible, but visual assessment was extremely variable; it was shown that visual assessment of area is inaccurate as well as poorly reproducible.

Background: Numerous studies indicate that statins have multiple beneficial actions (known as ‘pleiotropic actions') on cardiovascular system through the improvement of endothelial dysfunction, inflammation, oxidative stress, excessive arterial thrombosis, and stabilization of the atherosclerotic plaque.

Aortic disease is common and consists of pathologies that are both congenital and acquired in later life. Although often considered as a simple conduit between the heart and the end organs, the aorta may be afflicted by a myriad of processes including constrictive, degenerative, vasculitic, inflammatory and haemorrhagic conditions.

AORTIC STENOSIS Clinical suspicion of significant aortic stenosis even in the presence of a normal chest X-ray and electrocardiogram should lead to careful 2-D echocardiographic examination. The lesion can be adjudged mild and the subject probably certificated if the recording shows normal septal and posterior wall thickness, normal left ventricular ...

Management of aortic valve disease follows traditional algorithms: initial gross diagnosis, noninvasive imaging and quantitation, possible catheterization or angiography, and medical treatment until symptoms of prognosis prediction indicates surgery. Most advances in this subject reflect improved technology and additional data collection therefrom, and

Endovascular Treatment of Aortic Disease
International Journal of Angiology, 2000A review is given of endovascular treatment for AAA, thoracic aortic aneurysms, dissections as well as complications following previous aortic surgery. In several of these conditions endovascular treatment has advantages like a reduced operative trauma, shorter stay in hospital, and the possibility of treating patients who would have been unfit for ...

Aortic Dilatation in Bicuspid Aortic Valve Disease
