Different techniques of distal aortic repair in acute type A dissection: impact on late aortic morphology and reoperation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Objective: To compare three different techniques of distal aortic repair in acute type A (de Bakey type I) aortic dissection and to evaluate their impact on the late morphology of the aortic arch and descending aorta and on the incidence of reoperation ...

Possible therapeutic repositioning of valproic acid: From epileptic seizures to acute kidney injury

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Valproic acid, an anticonvulsant, may be repositioned to prevent acute kidney injury due to ischemia followed by reperfusion. It preserves renal functions, electrolyte homeostasis and active sodium transport in kidney tubules, and blocks the onset of hypertension.

Autonomic Plexuses of the Female Sexual Organs Travel Within Pubocervical and Rectovaginal [Endopelvic] Fascia: A Rationale for ‘Nerve‐Aware’ Vaginal Prolapse Repair

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The connective tissue support of female pelvic viscera—endopelvic fascia—has been studied in fetal and immunohistochemical models to demonstrate its relationship with the autonomic nerves of the female pelvis. Due to a paucity of literature examining the gross anatomical relationships between endopelvic fascia and autonomic nerves in adult ...

Photogrammetric Reconstruction of 3D Human Anatomical Structures and Augmented Reality via Smartphone Technology

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Limited access to cadavers necessitates the availability of digital resources for anatomy education. Smartphone‐based photogrammetry offers a promising solution for creating three‐dimensional (3D) and augmented reality (AR) models. This study compared two mobile photogrammetry applications (Qlone and Polycam) that have been used in modern ...

Murine model of surgically induced acute aortic dissection type A [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This study aimed at developing a murine model of surgically induced acute aortic dissection type A for investigation of the formation and progression of acute aortic dissection and to test whether this system could be used for biomarker ...

The Impact of Aging on the Anatomical Course of the Azygos Vein: A Retrospective, Computed Tomography Study

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The azygos vein (AV) is typically described as ascending vertically to the right of the vertebral column before arching anteriorly to drain into the superior vena cava. However, a small number of studies suggest that it is found leftward in older adults.

Clinical Anatomy of the Left and Right Atrial Appendages in Humans: Comparative and Developmental Perspective

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Human atrial chambers derive from distinct embryonic anlagens, the original embryonic atria gradually transforming into the so‐called auricles, or atrial appendages. This study quantifies macroscopic variations in pectinate muscle architecture in human atrial appendages and evaluates their visualization using clinical imaging modalities.

New echo-anatomical correlations in aortic dissection [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
La alta precisión de la ecocardiografía transesofágica en el diagnóstico de la disección aórtica ha sido claramente demostrada. Sin embargo, se trata de una técnica relativamente nueva y el significado de algunas imágenes no es aún bien entendido ...

Using Anatomy to Prepare Healthcare Students for Patient Death: A Systematic Review

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Healthcare students frequently encounter death in clinical practice, yet formal curricula may not appropriately prepare them for its emotional and ethical challenges. Anatomy education using human body donors has the potential to provide early, structured exposure to death, potentially shaping professional, cognitive, and emotional ...
