Identification of CD38high Monocyte as a Candidate Diagnostic Biomarker and Therapeutic Target for Sepsis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uncovers that CD38high monocytes discriminate sepsis and sterile inflammation and are associated with 28‐day mortality in bacterial sepsis. Targeting CD38 therapy reduces inflammatory response in monocytes and in sepsis mice model. Mechanistically, CD38‐HIF‐1α/glycolysis/MGO loop exacerbates sepsis‐induced immune dysregulation.

Rare Anatomic Entity Of Quadricuspid Aortic Valve With Aortic Insufficiency: A Case Report

open access: yesKaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, 2007
Quadricuspid aortic valve (QAV) is a rare congenital heart defect that often causes symptomatic aortic insufficiency in adulthood, imposing valve replacement. Herein, we describe one unusual case of QAV which underwent valve replacement uneventfully.

Development of a patient-specific finite element model of the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) procedure [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
This work reports on a study to develop a patient-specific finite element model of the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation procedure, using a model of a balloon-expandable percutaneous prosthetic aortic valve as a framework for the prediction of its performance.

Perspectives on the revised Ghent criteria for the diagnosis of Marfan syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Three international nosologies have been proposed for the diagnosis of Marfan syndrome (MFS): the Berlin nosology in 1988; the Ghent nosology in 1996 (Ghent-1); and the revised Ghent nosology in 2010 (Ghent-2).

Responsive ROS‐Augmented Prodrug Hybridization Nanoassemblies for Multidimensionally Synergitic Treatment of Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Cascade Assaults

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study proposes a novel HCC therapy using CA‐4S2@ES‐Cu nanomedicines to amplify cuproptosis, enhancing chemotherapy and immunotherapy. CA‐4 and ES‐Cu synergistically inhibit tumor growth, induce immune responses, and reverse the immunosuppressive microenvironment, offering an effective multidimensional therapeutic strategy for HCC treatment ...

Left Atrial-Veno-Arterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation: Step-By-Step Procedure and Case Example

open access: yesStructural Heart, 2022
Veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation is used in patients requiring biventricular support; however, its use increases the afterload. In patients with severe aortic insufficiency or severe left ventricular disfunction, it will increase left ...

A new technological system to revolutionize the management of valvular heart diseases: transcatheter aortic valve for the treatment of aortic stenosis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
The goal of this study is a technology analysis of a revolution for the management of valvular heart diseases given by new technological system based on transcatheter artificial aortic valve, a delivery catheter and a loading system for the treatment of aortic stenosis (a narrowing of the aortic valve because of calcium build up that restricts blood ...

Reversal of Stress‐Induced PIEZO1 Elevation with Mechanically Adapted Epicardial Patch for Myocardial Infarction Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work identifies fine‐tuning the expression of PIEZO1 as a critical molecular mechanism underlying the treatment of myocardial infarction by mechanically adapted cardiac patches, which can support the clinical translation of cardiac patch devices.
