Extraanatomic Aortic Bypass for Repair of Aortic Coarctation

Journal of Cardiac Surgery, 2007
We describe two adult patients who underwent extraanatomic ascending aorta-to-descending thoracic aorta bypass grafting for repair of aortic coarctation through a median sternotomy and posterior pericardial approach. Of the two patients, one presented with coarctation and concurrent cardiovascular disorders, and the other, with residual coarctation ...

Aortic disease: thoracic endovascular aortic repair

Heart, 2015
Following the first reported case of thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) in 1987, there has been rapid technological development and widespread uptake of this approach for thoracic aortic disease. TEVAR has particular advantages for acute thoracic syndromes and there is continuing development of TEVAR for use in the elective situation.

Aortic valve repair

Current Opinion in Cardiology, 2016
Recently, there has been a renewed interest with regard to surgical strategies for aortic valve preservation in the presence of isolated valve disease or concomitant aortic root disease, despite concerns having been raised about the mid/long-term durability of such repair techniques for the aortic valve.

Repair of neonatal aortic coarctation

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1995
From 1981 to 1991, 146 infants under 1 month of age underwent repair of aortic coarctation. Forty-two had isolated coarctation, 53 had associated ventricular septal defect, and 51 had complex cardiac defects. The principal mode of presentation was congestive heart failure. The mean age at operation was 10.6 days.

Endovascular Repair of the Aortic Arch

Perspectives in Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy, 2007
The aortic arch is a challenging site for endovascular repair. The proximal implantation site is often wide, angulated, conical, and limited in length by the presence of vital branches to the head and arms. The only way to lengthen the implantation site without risking stroke is to provide an alternative source of inflow through endovascular or ...

Complete Aortic Endovascular Repair

Annals of Vascular Surgery, 2021
Patients unfit for open repair after development a postdissection aortic arch and thoraco-abdominal aneurysm after open ascending aortic replacement for type A dissection would have no other treatment options. We report the case of a 75-year-old man with a type A aortic dissection treated by ascending aortic replacement.

Techniques of Aortic Valve Repair

Innovations: Technology and Techniques in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, 2011
Similar to mitral repair, newer methods of aortic valve reconstruction are achieving excellent outcomes with an 85% to 90% freedom from valve-related complications at 10 years. The goal of this review is to illustrate these newer and more stable techniques of aortic valve repair.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair

Nursing Standard, 2000
Rupture of an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is often a catastrophic event, while elective traditional repair involves major surgery. This article explains AAA development and traditional repair, and introduces a new, less invasive method of repair: endovascular stenting.

Salvage Of Failing Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repairs With Fenestrated Endovascular Aortic Repair

Annals of Vascular Surgery
Fenestrated endovascular aortic repair (FEVAR) can be used for salvage of failing abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repairs. We describe our experience with the commercially available Zenith fenestrated (ZFEN) platform to salvage failing AAA repairs. This is a retrospective review of all FEVARs performed from January 2012 until August 2019 at a tertiary ...

Aortic valve repair update

General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2015
The key for successful valve repair is full understanding of the regurgitant mechanism and sufficient evaluation of the valve. Currently, multidetector computed tomography has been introduced for evaluation. The aortic valve can be analyzed in details preoperatively.
