Impact of aortic root annuloplasty on 3D aortic root geometry

Journal of Surgical Research, 2018
The aim was to evaluate the impact of aortic root (AoR) annuloplasty on 3D AoR deformation. In experimental setup, Yacoub procedure and Yacoub with annuloplasty were performed. Results were compared to native AoR. In each AoR modality, six microsonometric (2 mm, 200 Hz) crystals were implanted at the sinotubular junction (STJ) and at the AoR base (AoB).

Dynamic Normal Aortic Root Diameters: Implications for Aortic Root Reconstruction

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2011
The main aim of this study is to determine the normal diameter and the relationship of aortic root components in healthy adults, and to provide a morphologic foundation for future clinical applications.Echocardiography was performed in 314 normal subjects who were divided into five groups according to age.

Aortic Root Remodeling in Acute Aortic Dissection

The Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon, 2020
Abstract Objectives To evaluate the long-term results of remodeling in acute aortic dissection type A (AADA) to define operative risk and root and valve stability. Methods Between October 1995 and December 2018, a total of 352 patients were treated surgically for AADA. Of these, 90 patients with AADA (<2 weeks from onset; age: 57

Narrow Aortic Root Complicating Aortic Valve Replacement

Archives of Surgery, 1969
Not infrequently, the replacement of the aortic valve is complicated by significant narrowing of the aortic root, particularly the segment between the valve annulus and the commissural attachments. This anatomical variation causes not only technical difficulties, but mortality1,2and certain postoperative complications and, therefore, deserves special ...

Allograft aortic root surgery. The infected aortic root

1997
The major early anatomical complication of native aortic valve endocarditis is valve regurgitation (or jet lesion) and the onset of ventricular failure followed by aortic ring and burrowing root abscesses during treatment at which the indication for operative intervention becomes very necessary and urgent.

Aortic root allograft reoperations

The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery
To investigate outcomes after aortic root allograft reoperation, identify risk factors for morbidity and mortality, and describe practice evolution since publication of our 2006 allograft reoperation study. From January 1987 to July 2020, 602 patients underwent 632 allograft-related reoperations at Cleveland Clinic: 144 before 2006 (early era, which ...

Anatomy of the aortic root: implications for aortic root reconstruction

General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2017
Since the introduction of valve-preserving root replacement and aortic annuloplasty, precise understanding of the aortic root anatomy has emerged as a key to successful aortic valve-preservation surgery. Fundamentally, surgeons need to know the precise anatomical definition and structure of the aortic root, including its normal dimensions, know the ...

Aortic root replacement with the freestyle stentless porcine aortic root bioprosthesis

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1999
Stentless porcine prosthetic valves offer several advantages over traditional valves. Among these are superior hemodynamics, laminar flow patterns, lack of need for anticoagulation and perhaps improved durability. One hundred and twelve patients were operated on from September 17, 1992 to April 13, 1998 as part of a multi-center worldwide investigation.

Re-Do Aortic Root Replacement After an Allograft Aortic Root Replacement

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2009
Structural degeneration of allograft aortic root is a global process. In addition to valvular degeneration, the allograft wall calcification poses a risk of systemic calcific embolization and late phase anastomotic aneurysm formation and rupture (anecdotal).
