Aortic root replacement with the freestyle stentless porcine aortic root bioprosthesis
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1999Stentless porcine prosthetic valves offer several advantages over traditional valves. Among these are superior hemodynamics, laminar flow patterns, lack of need for anticoagulation and perhaps improved durability. One hundred and twelve patients were operated on from September 17, 1992 to April 13, 1998 as part of a multi-center worldwide investigation.

Allograft aortic root surgery. The infected aortic root
1997The major early anatomical complication of native aortic valve endocarditis is valve regurgitation (or jet lesion) and the onset of ventricular failure followed by aortic ring and burrowing root abscesses during treatment at which the indication for operative intervention becomes very necessary and urgent.

Anatomy of the Aortic and Pulmonary Roots
Seminars in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery: Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Annual, 1998The use of the pulmonary autograft for aortic root replacement has renewed interest in the morphology of the arterial roots. In this article the basic construction of the roots, their anchorage, and their support from surrounding structures are reviewed.

The patient with concomitant aortic valve disease and small aortic root represents a unique surgical challenge. To replace the native diseased valve with an adequately sized prosthetic valve, the surgeon must be familiar with the various types of prostheses, the surgical techniques for root enlargement and root replacement, and the expected long-term ...

Aortic root replacement with a cardiac allograft: The infected aortic root
1988The aortic valve continues to be the most commonly affected in both native endocarditis and the post-prosthetic variety. The chief surgically treatable complication of native endocarditis is valve regurgitation and the onset of ventricular failure during treatment is the usual indication for surgical intervention.
