A lateral projection chest roentgenogram (Fig 1) demonstrates two bioprosthetic aortic valves and shows how a modern problem was solved using an historical, and otherwise outdated, surgical procedure. A 65-year-old man presented in 2006 with severe symptoms of prosthetic aortic valve insufficiency after undergoing previous aortic valve replacement ...

The bicuspid aortic valve affects 1 to 2% of the population and may be complicated by aortic stenosis or aortic insufficiency and infective endocarditis. The bicuspid aortic valve is associated with abnormalities of the aortic wall such as coarctation of the aorta, aortic dissection, and aortic aneurysm.

Aortic valve replacement for quadricuspid aortic valve incompetence.
The Journal of heart valve disease, 1998Quadricuspid aortic valve is an uncommon cause of aortic regurgitation. We report two patients who underwent aortic valve replacement because of severe aortic incompetence; the presence of a quadricuspid aortic valve was an accidental surgical finding.

An aortic valve typically consists of three valve leaflets, named after their orientation relative to the left and right coronary artery. In 0.5–2 % of the general population, the aortic valve comprises only two leaflets, which is termed a bicuspid aortic valve (BAV).

Abstract This paper describes fifteen patients with aortic valve perforation, in fourteen of whom this complication developed during the course of bacterial endocarditis. Aortic cusp perforation should be suspected whenever moderately severe or severe aortic insufficiency appears during bacterial endocarditis. The murmur of aortic insufficiency caused

AORTIC STENOSIS Clinical suspicion of significant aortic stenosis even in the presence of a normal chest X-ray and electrocardiogram should lead to careful 2-D echocardiographic examination. The lesion can be adjudged mild and the subject probably certificated if the recording shows normal septal and posterior wall thickness, normal left ventricular ...
