Influence of an Argon/Silane Atmosphere on the Temperature of a Thermal Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of a silane‐doped argon atmosphere on the chemical composition and temperature of a thermal nontransferring argon plasma is investigated using optical emission spectroscopy. As a result of the high amount of free electrons resulting from the stepwise ionization and dissociation of the silane molecule, even a silane addition of 0.01 vol ...

Thumb-actuated two-axis controller [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
A two axis joystick controller is described. It produces at least one output signal in relation to pivotal displacement of a member with respect to an intersection of the two axes. The member is pivotally movable on a support with respect to the two axes.

Aperture Supervision for Monocular Depth Estimation

open access: yes, 2018
We present a novel method to train machine learning algorithms to estimate scene depths from a single image, by using the information provided by a camera's aperture as supervision.

Application of Raman and Photoluminescence Spectroscopy to MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Visible to near infrared luminescence of MgO is studied on MgO‐C bricks and nominally pure MgO powder, with focus on two similar sharp high‐intensity signals, at 699 and 871 nm, each surrounded by symmetrical sidebands. The nature of these sidebands is investigated by temperature‐dependent spectroscopic measurements, confirming phonon involvement by ...

Pattern Synthesis of Dual-band Shared Aperture Interleaved Linear Antenna Arrays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper presents an approach to improve the efficiency of an array aperture by interleaving two different arrays in the same aperture area. Two sub-arrays working at different frequencies are interleaved in the same linear aperture area. The available

Productivity‐Driven Optimization of Laser Powder Bed Fusion Parameters for IN718 Superalloy: Process Control, Microstructure, and Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates how optimizing laser power, scanning speed, and hatching distance in laser powder bed fusion can boost the productivity of Inconel 718 manufacturing by up to 29% while maintaining mechanical integrity. The work delivers a validated process window and cost–time analysis, offering industry‐ready guidelines for efficient additive ...

Coded aperture projection [PDF]

open access: yesACM SIGGRAPH 2008 talks, 2008
We integrate a coded aperture into an off-the-shelf projector to increase its depth of field. With the measured regional defocus on the screen surface, projected images are deconvolved with locally scaled aperture codes. This leads to better results than deconvolving with Gaussian PSFs in cases where regular spherical apertures are used.

A P300 Brain-Computer Interface With a Reduced Visual Field

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2020
A P300 brain-computer interface (BCI) is a paradigm, where text characters are decoded from event-related potentials (ERPs). In a popular implementation, called P300 speller, a subject looks at a display where characters are flashing and selects one ...

Deterministic Detection of Single Ion Implantation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Focused ion beam implantation with high detection efficiencies will enable the rapid and scalable fabrication of advanced spin‐based technologies such as qubits. This work presents the detection efficiencies of a wide range of ions implanted into solid‐state hosts, with efficiencies of >90% recorded for ion species and substrate combinations of ...

On the Relationship Between Normal Stiffness and Permeability of Rock Fractures

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2021
The hydraulic permeability and normal stiffness of rock fractures are fundamentally related, which can serve as a probe for assessing hydro‐mechanical properties in a variety of geo‐engineering contexts.
