Probing of the betB gene from the cyanobacterium Aphanothece halophytica
The halotolerant cyanobacterium Aphanothece halophytica synthesizes the osmoprotectant glycine betaine in response to osmotic stress when the cells were grown in high salt medium. Choline is converted to betaine aldehyde, which in turn is converted further to glycine betaine. The enzymes involved are the products of betAB genes.openaire +1 more source
Characterization of Na+- atpase in the halotolerant cyanobacterium aphanothece halophytica
Extrusion of sodium ion is needed to balance and maintain sodium level for microorganisms to survive in hypersalin environment. Activity of Na+- ATPase in halotolerant cyanobacterium aphanothece haolphytica was investigated. Cells were preloaded with 22Na+ and the extrusion of 22Na+ from cells was followed by energizing the cells with glucose.openaire +1 more source
Uptake of cholene and its oxidation in halotolerant cynobacterium Aphanothece halophytica
Choline is a trim ethylated nitrogen compound, a precursor of glycine betaine which is one of the most potent osmoprotectants. Uptake of exogenous [methyl-14C] choline upon osmotic stress by a halotolerant cyanobacterium Aphcmothece halophytica was investigated.openaire +1 more source
