Nutritional evaluation of single-cell protein produced by Aphanothece microscopica Nägeli
The aim of this research was to evaluate the nutritional characteristics of Aphanothece microscopica Nägeli microalgae developed in the effluent of parboiled rice. The biomass was biologically evaluated by rat growth, during 10 days for nitrogen balance studies and 28 days for blood analysis.

Mapping of protein-protein interaction sites in the plant-type [2Fe-2S] ferredoxin. [PDF]
Knowing the manner of protein-protein interactions is vital for understanding biological events. The plant-type [2Fe-2S] ferredoxin (Fd), a well-known small iron-sulfur protein with low redox potential, partitions electrons to a variety of Fd-dependent ...

Nutrient inputs in mesocosms of an oligotrophic lake fail to sustain an algal bloom
Abstract Harmful algal blooms (HABs) rapidly change and threaten aquatic ecosystems. HABs in oligotrophic lakes are becoming more commonly observed, despite the long‐held paradigm that algal blooms cannot happen in low‐nutrient systems. This raises the question of whether nutrient loading, understood as a major driver of HABs, plays an important role ...

Adaptive Responses of Cyanobacteria to Phosphate Limitation: A Focus on Marine Diazotrophs
Marine diazotrophic cyanobacteria, which are essential for atmospheric nitrogen fixation in low‐nutrient oceans, have developed various strategies to survive under phosphate (Pi) limitation by using high‐affinity transporters and enzymes that break down dissolved organic phosphorus (DOP).

Polyphosphate phosphorus in the Great Lakes
Abstract Polyphosphate (polyP) is important to phytoplankton ecology, but a unified view of its variability and roles in ecosystem‐scale phosphorus (P) cycling is lacking. We study polyP in the world's largest freshwater ecosystem, the Laurentian Great Lakes, covering pelagic to nearshore areas across a wide nutrient gradient.

Abstract Picocyanobacteria are widespread and globally significant primary producers. In brackish waters, picocyanobacterial populations are composed of diverse species with both single‐cell and colony‐forming lifestyles. Compared to their marine counterparts, brackish picocyanobacteria are less well characterized and the focus of research has been ...

Bacterial community and cyanotoxin gene distribution of the Winam Gulf, Lake Victoria, Kenya
This work identified cyanobacterial community and cyanotoxin gene distribution in the Winam Gulf, Lake Victoria, Kenya. Cyanobacterial communities clustered in line with different areas of the Gulf, while cyanotoxin gene concentrations varied between the eastern and western regions.
