The first record of the Asian elm aphid Tinocallis (Sappocallis) takachihoensis Higuchi, 1972 (Hemiptera: Aphididae) in the European part of Russia

open access: yesActa Biologica Sibirica
The Asian elm aphid Tinocallis (Sappocallis) takachihoensis Higuchi, 1972 (Hemiptera: Aphididae) was recorded for the first time in the European part of Russia. Adults and nymphs were observed in Donetsk and Rostov-on-Don in 2021, in Mariupol in 2023, in

Biochemical and metabolic responses of cotton variety XLZ54 to Thrips tabaci and screening of resistance characterization indicators

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Cotton varieties resistant to Thrips tabaci exhibit lower soluble sugar and free amino acid levels, with smaller post‐infestation increases in these nutrients, resulting in reduced feeding rates and lighter damage. Key resistance evaluation indices include: damage severity, soluble sugars, free amino acids, soluble proteins, superoxide dismutase ...

Combined effects of canola plant density and insecticide management strategies on flea beetle abundance, canola defoliation, and yield across the Canadian prairies

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Increasing canola plant density reduced flea beetle abundance per plant and increased yield, independent of region or insecticide use, highlighting its potential as a component of integrated pest management. Abstract The crucifer flea beetle, Phyllotreta cruciferae (Goeze), and the striped flea beetle, Phyllotreta striolata (Fabricius) (Coleoptera ...

The Influence of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Wind Field on the Pesticide Droplet Deposition and Control Effect in Cotton Fields

open access: yesAgronomy
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) offer significant advantages in agricultural pest control. The present study investigated the influence of rotor-induced wind fields from multirotor UAVs (six-rotor T30, eight-rotor T40, eight-rotor T50, and four-rotor T60)

Pesticide use in integrated pest and pollinator management framework to protect pollinator health

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 1691-1696, April 2025.
Integrated pest management (IPM) emphasizes non‐chemical methods, with pesticides as a last resort, while integrated pest and pollinator management (IPPM) integrates pollinator health into pest control strategies. Abstract Agricultural pesticides have historically been a critical tool in controlling pests and diseases, preventing widespread suffering ...

Angiotensin-converting enzymes modulate aphid–plant interactions

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2015
Angiotensin-converting enzymes (ACEs) are key components of the renin–angiotensin system in mammals. However, the function of ACE homologs in insect saliva is unclear.

Single and dual RPA‐CRISPR/Cas assays for point‐of‐need detection of Stewart's wilt pathogen (Pantoea stewartii subsp. stewartii) of corn and Maize dwarf mosaic virus

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 1988-1999, April 2025.
Schematic diagram of the single and dual RPA‐CRISPR/Cas12a/13a diagnostic assays for the detection of Pantoea stewartii subsp. stewartii and Maize dwarf mosaic virus. The validated assays provide a useful and sensitive molecular tool for detecting two quarantine pathogens of maize within a minimal resource framework suitable for fast‐tracking the ...

The Entomopathogenic Fungal Endophytes Purpureocillium lilacinum (Formerly Paecilomyces lilacinus) and Beauveria bassiana Negatively Affect Cotton Aphid Reproduction under Both Greenhouse and Field Conditions

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The effects of two entomopathogenic fungal endophytes, Beauveria bassiana and Purpureocillium lilacinum (formerly Paecilomyces lilacinus), were assessed on the reproduction of cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover (Homoptera:Aphididae), through in planta ...

The European honey buzzard (Pernis apivorus) as an ally for the control of the invasive yellow‐legged hornet (Vespa velutina nigrithorax)

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 2237-2247, April 2025.
The predatory effect of the honey‐buzzard affects the reproductive performance of Asian‐hornet colonies, decreasing the density of workers over distance and time. The foraging distances of the honey‐buzzard concentrates within the first 2000 m from nest, which supports the results observed.
