Is the endophyte‐based plant protection against aphids mediated by changes in the insect microbiome?
We showed that the fungal endophyte Epichloë strain AR37 increased the plant resistance against aphids via the production of indole diterpene alkaloids. The reduction in aphid performance was not associated with changes in abundance/composition/diversity of the insect's bacterial microbiota, but additional endophyte effects on this microbiota cannot be

Nitrogen fertilization is widely known to affect plant metabolism, which subsequently influences phytophagous insects through a bottom-up effect. The interplay between plants and insects is often overlooked in studies examining the effects of nitrogen ...

Urban environments provide favorable conditions for the introduction and spread of nonnative and invasive species like the Argentine ant, which exploit ecological and climatic homogenization in cities to overcome natural barriers. Monitoring the expansion of such species can be achieved through potential distribution models, which in this study ...

Microorganism‐released metabolites, proteins, or toxins modulate plant‐based targets to regulate physiological processes such as phytohormone and nutrition balance and stress resistance. Microbes that affect plant physiological processes regulate the visual, olfactory, and gustatory cues associated with plants to attract or repel insect herbivores and ...

The propensity of different larval stages of lacewing Chrysoperla carnea (Stephens) (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) to control aphid Myzus persicae (Sulzer) (Homoptera: Aphididae) evaluated on Canola Brassica napus L. [PDF]
Green lacewings (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) are considered among the most effective generalist predators of aphids. In the present experimentation, the use of 1st, 2nd and 3rd instars of the chrysopid Chrysoperla carnea (Stephens) larvae against aphids ...
