Interaction between the entomopathogenic fungus, Beauveria bassiana (Ascomycota: Hypocreales) and the parasitoid wasp, Aphidius colemani Viereck (Hymenoptera: Braconidae)

open access: yesJournal of Entomological and Acarological Research, 2013
The effect of the entomopathogenic fungus, Beauveria bassiana, on the biological characteristics of Aphidius colemani, a parasitoid of the green peach aphid, Myzus persicae, was studied under laboratory conditions.

The right banker plant for the right application: Comparison of three candidates for aphid biocontrol, barley (Hordeum vulgare L.), corn (Zea mays L.), and finger millet (Eleusine coracana (L.) Gaertn)

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 80, Issue 7, Page 3293-3300, July 2024.
Finger millet, corn, and barley have different characteristics which predispose them to be used as banker plants in different specific biocontrol contexts. Abstract BACKGROUND In temperate regions, aphid biological control in greenhouses is mostly achieved by the regular release of biocontrol agents. Due to the rapid growth rate of the aphid population,

Types and Ultrastructural Characteristics of Antennal Sensilla on Aphidius colemani (Hymenoptera: Braconidae)

open access: yesKorean journal of applied entomology, 2010
Several species of the genus Aphidius are used in biological control programs against aphid pests throughout the world and their behavior and physiology are well studied. While the importance of sensory organs in their behavior is understood, their antennal structure remains largely unknown.

Does the temperature–size rule apply to idiobiont parasitoids?

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 172, Issue 6, Page 544-552, June 2024.
In ectotherms, the temperature–size rule (TSR) influences body size, where individuals developing at higher temperatures become smaller adults compared to those at lower temperatures. We studied Trichogramma euproctidis (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae), an idiobiont parasitoid with limited access to resources, to understand the mechanisms of the TSR ...

Seasonal occurrence, distribution and sampling indices for Myzus persicae (Hemiptera: Aphidoidea) and its parasitoids (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Aphidiinae) on tobacco

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2005
Field studies were conducted, in order to assess the seasonal occurrence and the spatial distribution of Aphidius colemani Viereck, Aphidius matricariae Haliday, Diaeretiella rapae (M'Intosh), Praon staryi Kavallieratos & Lykouressis and Praon volucre ...

Impact of the entomopathogenic fungus Verticillium lecanii on development of an aphid parasitoid, Aphidius colemani

open access: yesJournal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2005
The parasitoid Aphidius colemani developed normally (approximately 90% adult emergence) when its cotton aphid (Aphis gossypii) host was treated with Verticillum lecanii conidia 5 or 7 days after parasitization. Fungus exposure 1 day before or up to 3 days after parasitization, however, reduced A. colemani emergence from 0 to 10%.

Host plants and aphid hosts influence the selection behaviour of three aphid parasitoids (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Aphidiinae)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2016
Aphis fabae and Myzus persicae (Hemiptera: Aphididae) are insect pests that damage sugar beet and bean crops. Both are responsible for losses in yield and transmission of viral diseases, and may be present on the same host at the same time.

On the control of the cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glov. (Hemiptera: Aphididae), on cucumber in greenhouses

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Biological Pest Control, 2018
The objective of this study was to apply a biological control program on cucumber crop under greenhouse conditions, using biological control agents compared with insecticides to control the cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover.

Aphid parasitoids that occur on wheat crops of Northeast of the Parana State with recovery of Aphidius rhopalosiphi in Brazil
Parasitoides de pulgões-do-trigo que ocorrem no Norte do estado do Paraná e recaptura de Aphidius rhopalosiphi no Brasil

open access: yesSemina: Ciências Agrárias, 2012
Aphids (Hemiptera: Aphididae) are the main pest of wheat (Hemiptera: Aphididae) in several countries. In Brazil, the Biological Control of Wheat Aphids released millions of aphid parasitoids (Hymenoptera: Braconidae and Aphelinidae) on wheat fields and ...
