Mineral oil interferes with potato virus Y in aphid stylets
The mineral oil and the virus were visualized inside the insect's stylets and the mechanism by which the oil impacts virus acquisition seems to take place in the very early stages of acquisition. Abstract Mineral oils have been used for many decades to control the transmission of plant viruses and their ensuing epidemics.

Protein import into bacterial endosymbionts and evolving organelles
The acquisition of bacterial endosymbionts by ancient host cells followed by massive adaptation of the partners gave rise to mitochondria and plastids. Today, various systems with younger and less integrated endosymbionts provide insights into the initial steps in the endosymbiont to organelle transition.

The reintroduction of the endangered butterfly Coenonympha oedippus is the first conservation translocation of an invertebrate species in Slovenia. Three years after reintroduction, the population showed an 87% growth rate, demonstrating the effectiveness of the selected reintroduction site and its management, the source individuals and the protocols ...

Temporal and spatial Taylor's law: Application to Japanese subnational mortality rates
Abstract Taylor's law is a widely observed empirical pattern that relates the variances to the means of population densities. We present four extensions of the classical Taylor's law (TL): (1) a cubic extension of the linear TL describes the mean–variance relationship of human mortality at subnational levels well; (2) in a time series, long‐run ...

Conducted a year‐long Malaise trap monitoring study across Germany, revealing 14,445 OTUs, including 8,589 assigned species, highlighting extensive small‐scale and largely undescribed diversity. Identified 17 invasive species, five of which are new records for Germany, underscoring the need for continuous monitoring to manage invasive species ...
