Crack control technology for the X80 large OD 1422 mm line pipes

open access: yesNatural Gas Industry B, 2016
High-grade (API 5L X80) and large-diameter (OD 1422 mm) line pipes are used in the Sino–Russian eastern route gas pipeline project for high pressure (12 MPa) transmission, and this can significantly increase the transmission capacity and meet China's ...

Strain-Based Design Methodology of Large Diameter Grade X80 Linepipe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Continuous growth in energy demand is driving oil and natural gas production to areas that are often located far from major markets where the terrain is prone to earthquakes, landslides, and other types of ground motion. Transmission pipelines that cross

Evaluation of the diffusivity and susceptibility to hydrogen embrittlement of API 5L X80 steel welded joints

open access: yesThe International Journal of Multiphysics, 2013

Full‐scale testing of near‐neutral pH stress corrosion cracking growth behavior of a vintage X52 oil pipe

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, Volume 47, Issue 5, Page 1638-1655, May 2024.
Abstract This study presents an experimental investigation conducted on a 40‐year‐old vintage X52 oil pipe segment to assess the growth behavior of near‐neutral pH stress corrosion cracking (SCC). Six cracks were introduced on the pipe specimen, each of which was associated with a unique combination of metallurgical and environmental condition.

Synthetically Modified Tara and Oak Gall Nut Tannin‐Based Corrosion Inhibitors for Combating the Corrosive Influence of Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans on Mild Steel

open access: yesInternational Journal of Corrosion, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Natural tara and oak gall nut tannins, which lack corrosion inhibitive properties, were modified using gum arabic and tested against microbial corrosion induced by Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans under isothermal condition (28°C). Mild steel coated with the modified tannins was exposed to the causative under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. Based on the

Strain based design considerations for spiral welded pipelines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Pipelines are constructed in hostile environments where the occurrence of imposed plastic deformations can necessitate a strain based design approach. Under such conditions not only the strength and toughness properties have to be considered; also the ...

Study of the thermomechanical behavior of API 5L X80 steel micro-alloyed with Nb-Ti through hot torsion tests [PDF]

open access: yesRem: Revista Escola de Minas, 2015
The controlled rolling of high strength low alloy steel has been widely used in the production of large diameter pipes for the oil and gas industry. The thermo-mechanical control process (TMCP) is used to maximize grain refinement and achieve both higher strength and toughness in the steels.

Effect of Flow Rate on the Corrosion Behavior of API 5L X80 Steel in Water-Saturated Supercritical CO2 Environments

open access: yesCorrosion, 2021
The effect of the water-saturated supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) flow rate on the corrosion behavior of API 5L X80 steel at a temperature of 35°C and pressure of 80 bar was investigated. Tests were performed with the samples attached to a rotating shaft inside an autoclave.

Corrosion inhibition of API 5L X80 pipeline steel in acidic environment using aqueous extract of Thevetia peruviana

open access: yes, 2020
Aqueous extract of Thevetia peruviana leaves were investigated as corrosion inhibitor for API 5L X80 pipeline steel in 1M H2SO4 solution using electrochemical and gravimetric techniques. The results reveal that T. peruviana inhibited the X80 pipeline steel corrosion in the acid medium in a concentration dependent manner.
