Apical-ballooning syndrome [PDF]
Case presentation: A 60-year-old woman presented to the emergency department 2 hours after the onset of severe retrosternal chest pain that started soon after she was told that her son had died in a car accident. A 12-lead ECG demonstrated ST-elevation in the precordial leads (Figure 1), and the plasma troponin T level was elevated at 0.07 ng/mL.

Tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy (apical ballooning) [PDF]
In recent years, a new cardiac syndrome with transient left ventricular dysfunction has been described in Japanese patients. This new entity has been referred to as “tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy” or “apical ballooning”, named for the particular shape of the end-systolic left ventricle in ventriculography.1 To date, tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy has also been ...

Myocardial bridging is a rare event, which leads to chest pain, arrhythmias and discussable Takotsubo syndrome (cardiomyopathy). We enrolled 41 patients (33 females, mean age 68.4 years), the majority of whom had Takotsubo cardiomyopathy in any form ...

Apical ballooning in takotsubo cardiomyopathy [PDF]
Stress-induced takotsubo cardiomyopathy exhibiting transient left ventricular apical ballooning with chest symptoms, electrocardiogram changes and minimal myocardial enzymatic release has become accepted worldwide as a distinct clinical entity. The present paper describes three patients who underwent left ventriculography because of chest symptoms ...

Apical thrombus associated with left ventricular apical ballooning [PDF]
A 64 year old woman under antidepressant treatment, but with no coronary risk factors, was admitted to our institution with a two day history of continuous atypical chest pain. The ECG showed pronounced ST segment elevation in leads II, III, aVF and V2–V6 (panel A).

Takotsubo Syndrome with Complete Heart Block and Cardiogenic Shock
This report describes a 62-year-old postmenopausal female patient who presented with cardiogenic shock, wide QRS complete heart block (CHB), left ventricular apical ballooning with severe systolic dysfunction, and normal coronary angiogram. She underwent

Oral anticoagulation in high risk Takotsubo syndrome: when should it be considered and when not?
Standard pharmacological therapy in Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is still debated and there is a lack of prospective data. In their recent work in BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Abanador-Kamper et al. found that stroke in TTS has an event rate of 2.8% after 30

Too Much Stress- A Rare Case of Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy [PDF]
Takotsubo syndrome is a reversible, stress-induced transient systolic and diastolic dysfunction. It was first described as a characteristic ballooning of left ventricular apex which closely resembles a Japanese fishing pot.
