Entomopathogenic Nematodes for Sustainable Thrips Control in Nectarine Cultivation: Efficacy, Pollinator Safety, and Integrated Pest Management Strategies

open access: yesAgronomy
The efficacy of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs), Steinernema feltiae and Heterorhabditis bacteriophora, for controlling Frankliniella occidentalis (Thysanoptera: Thripidae, Pergande, 1895) in nectarine orchards, was evaluated, alongside their potential

Potential Correlation Between Bombus lantschouensis Thoracic Morphology and Flight Behavior

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Potential correlation between Bombus lantschouensis thoracic morphology and flight behavior. ABSTRACT Remarkably little modern work has investigated the thoracic structures of insects and their relationship to flight locomotion. Most studies focus exclusively on either morphology or flight kinematics.

Taxonomic, Phylogenetic and Functional Diversity of Mammals Across a Nationwide Protected Area Network

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
Using camera‐trap data from 26 protected across Tanzania, we show that greater landscape heterogeneity and stronger protection are associated with higher mammal species richness and, in turn, functionally and phylogenetically richer mammal assemblages. Greater landscape heterogeneity appears to favour generalist species while stronger protection seems ...

Modulating Hunting Atmospheres: Mud and Material Flows Beyond the Kill

open access: yesAmerican Anthropologist, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article argues that hunting is not a bounded event but a materially redistributed atmosphere that extends beyond the kill and across field, truck, clothing, and home. Drawing on long‐term ethnographic fieldwork with wild boar hunters in Uruguay, I show how mud, odors, blood, and bodily residues carry the sensory, affective, and material ...

Coinvasional disruptions to island pollinator networks

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Biological invasions can adversely affect pollinator diversity by threatening the maintenance of animal‐pollinated plant communities. Although most studies have examined single invasive species, accelerating species introductions driven by global trade highlight the need to understand how multiple co‐occurring invaders jointly influence ...

Novel α-Glucosidase Inhibitory Peptides from Mulberry Leaf Based on Molecular Docking and Network Pharmacology Approaches

open access: yesShipin gongye ke-ji
Mulberry leaves are a rich source of high-quality protein and possess the potential to yield bioactive peptides. This study identified novel α-glucosidase inhibitory peptides from mulberry leaf proteolytic products based on peptidomics identification and

Hygienic Behaviour of Honeybee Colonies with Different Levels of Polyandry and Genotypic Composition

open access: yesJournal of Apicultural Science, 2015
Honey bee queens were inseminated with diluted, homogenised semen collected from a few dozen drones. This procedure was carried out to increase the diversity of the queens’ offspring, which is in comparison to the offspring of queens inseminated with ...

BumbleBEEP: A Sensor System for Bumblebee Colony Monitoring

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
We present a bumblebee colony monitoring system, BumbleBEEP. The system is fitted with thermometers and a custom weight sensor. These record data up to every 15 min, recording bumblebee brood nest temperature, environmental ambient temperature, and colony growth.

Performance of Bee Colonies Headed by Queens Instrumentally Inseminated with Semen of Drones Who Come from a Single Colony or Many Colonies

open access: yesJournal of Apicultural Science, 2014
The aim of the study was to determine the effect of honey bee worker diversity within the colony on: development, honey productivity, and wintering. Two different levels of diversity within the colony were tested.

Geographic Classification of Social Bees Using Automated Wing Pattern Analysis

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
We present an end‐to‐end deep learning framework for automated geographic classification of honey bee populations based on wing morphology. A dataset of 1040 wing images from seven regions was analyzed using four CNN architectures with transfer learning.
