The genus Freitasoxyascaris was established by Gomes and Motta (1967) with Freitasoxyascaris travassosi from the large intestine of Thoropa miliaris from Manguinhos, Rio de Janeiro, Guanabara, Brazil, as the type. Later, Baker (1980) synonymized Freitasoxyascaris with Aplectana.
