Trait‐Mediated Seed Predation and Dispersal Are Regulated by Seed Abundance for Sympatric Tree Species in the Qinling Mountains, China

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 10, October 2026.
We examined the effects of seed traits, seed abundance and seasonality on rodent‐mediated seed predation and dispersal of three sympatric oaks in the Qinling Mountains, China. Rodents consistently preferred Quercus variabilis seeds for caching, while Quercus glandulifera seeds were mostly consumed in situ.

Boldness and niche width structure spatial interactions in a natural rodent community

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 95, Issue 10, Page 1999-2012, October 2026.
We show that individual behavioural differences (boldness) structure spatial encounter patterns within a natural multi‐species community. By linking personality to space use and interaction structure, our study demonstrates how intraspecific variation can scale up to shape community‐level processes.
