Apogamy in Funaria hygrometrica Hedw.
The Bryologist, 1967Sporophytes were observed originating laterally on the axes of gametophytes in some drying, 12-week-old, aseptic cultures of Funaria hygrometrica. When transferred to fresh medium, the gametophytes produced new shoots which bore additional sporophytes.

Apogamy, apospory, and parthenogenesis in the Pteridophytes
The Botanical Review, 1939There can be no doubt that the plants most favorable for the study of apogamy and apospory are the homosporous leptosporangiate Filicales, in many of which these deviations in life cycles have been found to occur in nature and also under cultural conditions. They are not, however, at present fully understood.

Apogamy inPteris biaurita Linn.
Proceedings / Indian Academy of Sciences, 1938The development of the gametophyte inPteris biaurita is of thePteris longifolia type. There is no typical cushion which is met with commonly in ferns behind the notch in well-developed prothalli. Antheridia with motile sperms apparently capable of fertilization are formed but archegonia are eliminated out of the life-cycle of the gametophyte.

Induction of apogamy inEquisetum arvense
The Botanical Magazine Tokyo, 1974InEquisetum arvense, apogamous sporophytes were produced on medium containing 5×10−6–5×10−8 g/ml kinetin. NAA, IAA, GA3, glucose and saccharose were ineffective for the induction of apogamy. On medium containing 5×10−7–5×10−8 g/ml kinetin, the gametophytes passed into sporophytic structures directly.

Cytology of Apogamy in Polysticum tsussemense
Botanical Gazette, 19421. The prothallia of Polysticum tsussemense J. Smith develop normally and produce antheridia but no archegonia. 2. The sporophyte always arises apogamously from cells of the gametophyte posterior to the apical notch. 3. Nuclear divisions of the eight sporogenous cells are generally interrupted during prophase but may proceed to metaphase or to partial ...
