The Church as our mother: New perspectives on apostolic succession
Calvin uses the metaphor of a mother when speaking of the church. This article discusses its meaning, Calvin’s relation with Cyprian (who first introduced the metaphor), and its relevance for contemporary ecclesiology. The concept turns out to be very much related to office as one of the guarantees for the true church.
