A Cu‐based crystal‐glass composite with high‐density twins is identified by a fast screening technique using combinatorial sputtering together with XRD and nanoindentation mapping. This bamboo‐like structure demonstrates homogenous plastic flow and retains high strength during in situ high temperature tests, up to 1 GPa at 550°C, owing to those ...

The Intuitive Appeal of Explainable Machines [PDF]
Algorithmic decision-making has become synonymous with inexplicable decision-making, but what makes algorithms so difficult to explain? This Article examines what sets machine learning apart from other ways of developing rules for decision-making and the

Nanothermometry in Living Cells: Physical Limits, Conceptual and Material Challenges
Heat and temperature are fundamental to life. When nanothermometers began probing regions as small as a living cell, they triggered controversial claims of large intracellular temperature gradients. We review physical constraints energy‐conservation, entropy production, thermodynamic fluctuations, and molecular dynamics.

Confiscation orders and abuse of process: discretion to prevent "double whammy" under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 [PDF]
Explores the circumstances in which the making of an application for a confiscation order might amount to an abuse of process entitling the court to grant a stay of proceedings. Outlines the facts leading to the Court of Appeal decision in R.

Single‐ and Dual‐Atom Configurations in Atomically Dispersed Catalysts for Lithium–Sulfur Batteries
Single‐atom and dual‐atom‐based atomically dispersed catalysts (ADCs) effectively address the shuttle effect and sluggish redox kinetics in Li–S batteries. With nearly 100% atomic utilization and tunable coordination environments, ADCs enhance LiPSs adsorption, lower conversion barriers, and accelerate sulfur redox reactions.

The Early Bird Waits for the Worm: May Federal Judgments Be Registered Prior to Appeal? [PDF]
The federal registration statute, codified at 28 U.S.C. § 1963, permits a judgment creditor to register his or her judgment in another state by simply filing a copy of the judgment with the clerk of the registering court.

Balancing Electrons to Break the Activity‐Selectivity Trade‐Off in H2O2 Electrosynthesis
Carrier‐concentration balancing in CuS is achieved by coupling cobalt dopants with cobalt vacancies, converting CuS from p‐ to n‐type to accelerate 2e− ORR while withdrawing excess carriers to optimize *OOH binding for H2O2 desorption. The catalyst reaches 8.14 mol g−1 h−1 with >84% selectivity in 1.0 M KOH and drives robust electro‐Fenton dye ...
