Webcam-based gaze estimation for computer screen interaction

open access: yesFrontiers in Robotics and AI
This paper presents a novel webcam-based approach for gaze estimation on computer screens. Utilizing appearance based gaze estimation models, the system provides a method for mapping the gaze vector from the user’s perspective onto the computer screen ...

Testing the factor structure of the International Trauma Questionnaire in a sample of violence‐exposed women living in Northern Ireland

open access: yesJournal of Traumatic Stress, EarlyView.
Abstract The International Trauma Questionnaire (ITQ) assesses posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and the disturbances in self‐organization (DSO) aspect of complex PTSD (CPTSD) per the ICD‐11. This study examined the ITQ's factor structure among violence‐ or abuse‐exposed women in Northern Ireland, a region with a history of conflict (i.e., “the ...

A Brainstem Radiomics Framework to Distinguish Progressive Supranuclear Palsy from Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesMovement Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Differentiating progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) from Parkinson's disease (PD) can be clinically challenging. In the neuroimaging field, radiomics has emerged as a promising approach to capture subtle microstructural and textural image alterations, improving differential diagnoses.

Domain-Adaptive Full-Face Gaze Estimation via Novel-View-Synthesis and Feature Disentanglement

open access: yesIEEE Access
Along with the recent development of deep neural networks, appearance-based gaze estimation has succeeded considerably when training and testing within the same domain. Compared to the within-domain task, the variance of different domains makes the cross-

Ultrafast fMRI Detects Age‐Related Changes in Harmonics of Cardiac Pulsations in the Brain at 7 T

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Aging impacts pulsatility of blood vessels in the brain, reflecting vascular health. Resolving characteristics of cardiac pulsatility requires faster acquisitions than traditional fMRI. An ultrafast fMRI method was developed and applied to sample several harmonics of cardiac pulsations at 7 T.

Appearance-Based Gaze Estimation as a Benchmark for Eye Image Data Generation Methods

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Data augmentation is commonly utilized to increase the size and diversity of training sets for deep learning tasks. In this study, we propose a novel application of an existing image generation approach in the domain of realistic eye images that ...

Machine Understanding of Human Behavior [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A widely accepted prediction is that computing will move to the background, weaving itself into the fabric of our everyday living spaces and projecting the human user into the foreground. If this prediction is to come true, then next generation computing,

How can children and young people have a voice in urban treescapes?

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Scientific understanding of climate change has, to date, failed to result in sufficient action. This paper proposes that a deficit model of top‐down learning and dissemination in relation to public engagement with science may be part of the problem, particularly when considering the attitudes, values and empowerment of children and young ...

Unsaturated biobased polyesters from bicyclic α‐pinene‐based diols

open access: yesPolymer International, EarlyView.
We present the synthesis of four biosourced unsaturated polyesters made from chiral terpene‐based diols and esters of renewable diacids. The resulting materials harbor a bicyclic pinene ring in their backbones which leads to enhanced thermal properties while still conferring susceptibility to enzyme hydrolysis for chains having a cis alkene.

Living Well With Type 1 Diabetes in Middle School: A Student‐Centered Perspective

open access: yesPsychology in the Schools, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is among the most common chronic illnesses affecting children and adolescents, meaning that all schools regularly include students with T1D. Supporting their well‐being requires understanding how they experience middle school to address their specific needs.
