Surgical Laparoscopy, Endoscopy & Percutaneous Techniques, 2001
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of using 2-mm laparoscopic instruments in the treatment of appendicitis and to identify risk factors that may limit their use. Minilaparoscopic appendectomy was performed through a 2-mm port in the umbilicus for a videoendoscope, a 2-mm working port in the right upper quadrant, and a 5/12-mm ...

Appendectomy by Intussusception
Archives of Surgery, 1972To the Editor. —Hallatt 1 in gynecologic surgery and Lilly and Randolph 2 in pediatric surgery have rekindled interest in the intussusception (inversion) method for performing an appendectomy. Endoscopy, 1983
These newly developed endoscopic methods in gynaecology for haemostasis during surgical pelviscopy (Endocoagulation Roeder-loop ligation, endoligature, endo-suture with intra- and extracorporeal knotting) make it possible to carry out appendectomy by endoscopy for any of the following indications: Postoperative adhesion of the appendix especially in ...

Since early 1987, 62 laparoscopic appendectomies have been performed without any major operative or postoperative complications. Just over half of these patients required hospitalization overnight for observation. The rest went home with activity and dietary restriction for 48 to 72 hours.

Appendectomy is the most commonly performed emergency surgical procedure. The prevalence of appendicitis and the relative technical simplicity of appendectomy has led to an unfounded complacence in both the medical community and the general public regarding the gravity of appendicitis.
