Surgical Laparoscopy, Endoscopy & Percutaneous Techniques, 2001
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of using 2-mm laparoscopic instruments in the treatment of appendicitis and to identify risk factors that may limit their use. Minilaparoscopic appendectomy was performed through a 2-mm port in the umbilicus for a videoendoscope, a 2-mm working port in the right upper quadrant, and a 5/12-mm ...

In this paper, we compare our experience with the techniques of needlescopic appendectomy (NA) (2-mm instruments) for the treatment of acute appendicitis with the more conventional approach of a laparoscopic appendectomy (LA).We did a retrospective review of patients who underwent NA for the diagnosis of acute appendicitis between August 1996 and ...

To define patterns of care and outcome for pediatric appendectomy.A study was designed to evaluate all pediatric appendectomies performed in the 147 Department of Defense hospitals worldwide. Cases of nonincidental appendectomy were identified through discharge diagnoses and operative logs, and 98.6% of the charts were retrieved for review.

Appendectomy in pregnancy: evaluation of the risks of a negative appendectomy
The American Journal of Surgery, 2012In pregnant women, a high negative appendectomy (NA) rate often is reported; however, the outcome of pregnancy after a NA is not well studied.Among 1,696 consecutive patients (728 men and 968 women) who underwent an appendectomy at our institution (1996-2005), 87 pregnant women were identified.

These newly developed endoscopic methods in gynaecology for haemostasis during surgical pelviscopy (Endocoagulation Roeder-loop ligation, endoligature, endo-suture with intra- and extracorporeal knotting) make it possible to carry out appendectomy by endoscopy for any of the following indications: Postoperative adhesion of the appendix especially in ...

Laparoscopic appendectomy is a feasible and a safe alternative to open appendectomy. Several laparoscopic procedures have been described that use one or more trocars. We report our experience with the treatment of acute appendicitis using a laparoscopy-assisted technique by means of only one transumbilical trocar. From February 1996 to February 1999 we ...
