Modulation of the droplet spectrum by working pressure, adjuvants, and herbicides [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Ceres
The droplet spectrum is a crucial factor in optimizing herbicide efficacy and minimizing spray drift. This study evaluated the effects of working pressure (100 to 600 kPa) and six adjuvants on droplet size, both in the absence and presence of herbicides,

Integrated optical model for organic light-emitting devices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
One of the most important parameters of organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) in their application for illumination or displays is their efficiency. In order to maximize the efficiency, one needs to understand all loss mechanisms and effects present in ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Flocculation Efficiency of Chitosan for Papermaking Applications

open access: yesBioResources, 2012
Bio-polymers have a large interest as environment-friendly alternatives to synthetic additives in papermaking. In this work, the behavior of three chitosans with different molecular weights and cationic charges were investigated as flocculation additives in papermaking on two systems: calcium carbonate (GCC) and pulp/GCC suspension. Comparison was made

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Homothetic Efficiency: Theory and Applications [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Business & Economic Statistics, 2017
We provide a nonparametric revealed preference approach to demand analysis based on homothetic efficiency. Homotheticity is widely assumed (often implicitly) because it is a convenient and often useful restriction. However, this assumption is rarely tested, and data rarely satisfy testable conditions.
