Branching Processes and Their Applications

open access: yesLecture Notes in Statistics, 2016
This volume gathers papers originally presented at the 3rd Workshop on Branching Processes and their Applications (WBPA15), which was held from 7 to 10 April 2015 in Badajoz, Spain (http://branching.unex.es/wbpa15/index.htm).

Applications on branching processes

open access: yes, 2021

Branching Processes in Biology

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Applied Mathematics, 2015
This book provides a theoretical background of branching processes and discusses their biological applications. Branching processes are a well-developed and powerful set of tools in the field of applied probability.

Application of branching enzyme in starch processing

Biocatalysis and Biotransformation, 2009
AbstractBranching enzyme (BE; EC 2.4.1.18; (1→4)-α-D-glucan:(1→4)-α-D-glucan 6-α-D-[(1→4)-α-D-glucano]-transferase) is a glucan transferase which is responsible for synthesis of α-1,6-glucosidic bonds in starch and glycogen in vivo. It has been demonstrated that at least three BEs catalyze cyclization reactions in addition to the branching reaction in ...

Diffusion approximation of critical controlled multi-type branching processes [PDF]

open access: yesRevista De La Real Academia De Ciencias Exactas, Fisicas Y Naturales - Serie A: Matematicas
Branching processes form an important family of stochastic processes that have been successfully applied in many fields. In this paper, we focus our attention on controlled multi-type branching processes (CMBPs).

Genealogies of Branching Processes and Their Applications

2015
One of the important questions in population dynamics and particularly in population genetics is how to gain information about a population’s past, given its present status. Sources, historical in nature such as written records, archeological such as cemeteries, paleontological such as fossils, or even biological such as ancient DNA, are often of ...

An Application of a General Branching Process in the Study of the Genetics of Aging

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 2001
A general branching process model is developed to analyse familial dependence in longevity data. A general formula for the survival function of a randomly chosen sibling of an individual of a specified age is derived. The branching process model takes into account that siblings' ages may be censored.

Estimation for Discrete Time Branching Processes with Application to Epidemics

Biometrics, 1977
Certain estimators for the mean of the offspring distribution of a Galton-Watson process are considered. The asymptotic behaviour of each of these estimators is studied when the true underlying model is in fact a multitype branching process or a branching process with a random environment.

Controlled branching processes and their applications to normal and malignant haematopoiesis

Bulletin of Mathematical Biology, 1983
The development of a blood cell line originating from a pluripotent stem cell pool is modelled by a chain of multidimensional branching processes in which the sojourn times of the cells in certain resting states depend on the size of the following subpopulation. The stability of such a model is discussed qualitatively and some considerations concerning
