The application of EDXS to the biological sciences
Journal of Microscopy, 1984SUMMARYThe distribution of chemical elements in soft tissues may be faithfully preserved by very rapid freezing. Most often the material is then cryosectioned and the sections frozen‐dried prior to analysis, but direct analysis in the hydrated state is an established alternative. For bulk specimens, the shape of the analysed volume is uncertain.

The application of science to technology
Research in Science Education, 1992The notion that technology is the application of science to the making of artefacts is a widely-held, persistent and influential view. Considerable scholarly work has been done during the past quarter century to refute it on the grounds that it is historically and ontologically inaccurate.

Application of AMS to the biomedical sciences
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 1990Abstract Radio-isotopic tracers are a useful tool in numerous areas of biomedical research, including metabolism, pharmacokinetics, and the detailed study of biomolecular interactions. Accelerator mass spectrometry was suggested as a tool for the biomedical sciences shortly after its invention, but few attempts to use its sensitivity in such research

Migrating e-Science Applications to the Cloud: Methodology and Evaluation
2017Migrating an existing application to the cloud is a complex and multi-dimensional problem requiring in many cases adapting the application in significant ways. Taking a look in particular into the database layer of the application, this involves dealing with differences in the granularity of interactions, refactoring of the application to cope with ...
