Journal of Physical Activity and Health, 2016
Background:Promoting regular physical activity (PA) and lessening sedentary behaviors (SB) constitute a public health priority. Recent evidence suggests that PA and SB are not only related to reflective processes (eg, behavioral intentions), but also to impulsive approach-avoidance tendencies (IAAT). This study aims to test the effect of a computerized

Mice aversion to sevoflurane, isoflurane and carbon dioxide using an approach-avoidance task
Applied Animal Behaviour Science, 2017Abstract Euthanasia of laboratory animals is one of the main concerns for animal welfare, especially the use of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) which has been described to induce aversive-like behaviours. In order to refine mass euthanasia in rodents, this study aims to determine which gas, sevoflurane, isoflurane or CO 2 induce less aversion in mice ...

Converging evidence of social avoidant behavior in schizophrenia from two approach-avoidance tasks
Journal of Psychiatric Research, 2015Many people with schizophrenia suffer from social impairments characterized by active social avoidance, which is related to social phobia common in schizophrenia, while motivational impairments can also result in passive social withdrawal. Although social avoidance is frequently reported in this population, this is the first study to directly compare ...

The present research compared three measures of approach–avoidance behaviour with respect to their sensitivity and criterion-validity: moving a manikin on the screen towards and away from stimuli (manikin task), pulling and pushing a joystick (joystick task), and pulling and pushing a joystick causing the visual impression that the stimuli come closer ...

8 repressors and 8 sensitizers were administered a free-association task consisting of ambiguous stimulus sentences with positive and negative response alternatives. Sensitizers chose significantly more negative associations than repressors. Ambiguous sentences were associated with differential group responding.
