Learning Functions and Approximate Bayesian Computation Design: ABCD

open access: yesEntropy, 2014
A general approach to Bayesian learning revisits some classical results, which study which functionals on a prior distribution are expected to increase, in a preposterior sense.

Markovianization with approximate unitary designs [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications Physics, 2021
AbstractMemoryless processes are ubiquitous in nature, in contrast with the mathematics of open systems theory, which states that non-Markovian processes should be the norm. This discrepancy is usually addressed by subjectively making the environment forgetful.

A low‐cost compensated approximate multiplier for Bfloat16 data processing on convolutional neural network inference

open access: yesETRI Journal, 2021
This paper presents a low‐cost two‐stage approximate multiplier for bfloat16 (brain floating‐point) data processing. For cost‐efficient approximate multiplication, the first stage implements Mitchell's algorithm that performs the approximate ...

Approximator: A Software Tool for Automatic Generation of Approximate Arithmetic Circuits

open access: yesComputers, 2022
Approximate arithmetic circuits are an attractive alternative to accurate arithmetic circuits because they have significantly reduced delay, area, and power, albeit at the cost of some loss in accuracy.

Approximations in compensator design: A duality [PDF]

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 2002
In classical controller design, poles far to the left of dominant poles are sometimes ignored. Similarly, in some proportional-integral compensation techniques, the controller zero is placed close to the origin and design proceeds after cancelling this zero with a pole at the origin.

Approximately optimal mechanism design via differential privacy [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 3rd Innovations in Theoretical Computer Science Conference, 2011
In this paper we study the implementation challenge in an abstract interdependent values model and an arbitrary objective function. We design a mechanism that allows for approximate optimal implementation of insensitive objective functions in ex-post Nash equilibrium. If, furthermore, values are private then the same mechanism is strategy proof.

Optimal mechanism design with approximate incentive compatibility and many players

open access: yesJournal of Mechanism and Institution Design, 2023
We consider a setting in which a mechanism designer must choose the appropriate social alternative depending on the state of nature. We study the problem of optimal design and demonstrate that a mechanism which allocates resources so as to achieve the ...
