Approximate Solution of Queueing Models

Computer, 1980
A variety of phenomena and interactions defy exact analytic modeling. Approximation can provide a reasonably accurate solution of a realistic model and is computationally inexpensive.

Approximation of Value Efficient Solutions

Journal of Multi‐Criteria Decision Analysis, 1997
Summary: We introduce an approximation set to the value efficient set in multiobjective problems under partial information on the decision maker's preferences modelled by a vector value function. We show monotonicity and convergence properties based on increasingly precise vector value functions with two components, which improve the approximation and ...

Approximate solutions of severity of ruins

Blätter der DGVFM, 1996
Summary: Let \(G(u,y)\) be the severity of ruin, i.e. the probability that, starting with the initial surplus \(u\), ruin occurs and the deficit at the time of ruin is less than \(y\). The authors determine approximate solutions for the severity of ruin using a numerical algorithm based on cubic spline approximation.

Approximate Solution of Hill's Equation

Journal of Mathematical Physics, 1966
A modified WKB approximation, amenable to successive corrections, to the solution of the linear differential equation of second order having a periodic coefficient in normal form is presented. Considered as an application of the related equation method, it uses the free-particle wave equation rather than, as in an alternative approach, Mathieu's ...

Axiomatization for Approximate Solutions in Optimization

2006
Approximate solutions to optimization problems are characterized by means of properties like consistency, non-emptiness, behaviour w.r.t. inclusion, invariance w.r.t. translation, multiplication.

Periodic Solutions and Approximate Symmetries

Nonlinear Dynamics, 2000
This paper deals with the geometrical approach to study the approximate symmetries of the approximate dynamical system obtained in the neighborhood of a periodic solution. The author demonstrates own results on the damped-driven Helmholtz oscillator which arises in modeling of ear drums and ship capsizing.

Periodic Solutions by Picard's Approximations

Canadian Mathematical Bulletin, 1968
In [1] Demidovic considered a system of linear differential equationswith A(t) continuous, T-periodic, odd, and skew symmetric. He proved that all solutions of (1) are either T-periodic or 2T-periodic0 In [2] Epstein used Floquet theory to prove that all solutions of (1) are T-periodic without the skew symmetric hypothesis.
