Approximate number sense theory or approximate theory of magnitude?
Behavioral and Brain Sciences, 2017AbstractLeibovich et al. argue that the evidence in favor of a perceptual mechanism devoted to the extraction of numerosity from visual collections is unsatisfactory and propose to replace it with an unspecific mechanism capturing approximate magnitudes from continuous dimensions.

Journal of Music Theory, 2023
Abstract This article describes an approximate set theory modeling intuitions shared by musicians such as Cowell, Schoenberg, Messiaen, and Persichetti. The author considers five approximation strategies, showing that in each case the result resembles an exact seven-tone set theory.
