Bone Artifacts from Ksar 'Aqil (Lebanon)

This paper discusses the techniques of manufacture, typology and raw materials of the Upper Palaeolithic bone artifacts from the recent excavations at Ksar 'Aqil, Lebanon (directed by J. Tixier). Most pieces are either awls or points, made from bone more often than antler.

The tooth described here, Ksar 'Aqil 3, is an upper right deciduous molar found in an aurignacian level, which can be dated around 29.000 yrs BP. This tooth probably belonged to a child, approximately 10 years old, a little older than Ksar 'Aqil 1, discovered more than forty years before.
