Amelioration of Post‐Stroke Edema and Microcirculatory Dysfunction via Targeted AQP4 Inhibition While Preserving the Glymphatic System

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Compared to untargeted therapy, the targeted nanocarrier, Angiopep‐2‐conjugated Lipid Nanoparticle (A‐LNP) loaded with TGN‐020 (TGN), selectively accumulated in stroke‐injured regions. It suppressed local aquaporin‐4 (AQP4) overexpression, thereby alleviating cerebral edema and hypoperfusion while preserving global glymphatic clearance.

Molecular Mechanisms and Drug Development in Aquaporin Water Channel Diseases: Molecular Mechanism of Water Channel Aquaporin-2 Trafficking

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2004
Targeted positioning of water channel aquaporin-2 (AQP2) strictly regulates body water homeostasis. Trafficking of AQP2 to the apical membrane is critical for the reabsorption of water in renal collecting ducts.

Autophagic degradation of aquaporin-2 is an early event in hypokalemia-induced nephrogenic diabetes insipidus

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2015
Hypokalemia (low serum potassium level) is a common electrolyte imbalance that can cause a defect in urinary concentrating ability, i.e., nephrogenic diabetes insipidus (NDI), but the molecular mechanism is unknown.

Myelitis‐Predominant Aggressive Phenotype: Unveiling Unique Patterns of Late‐Onset Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorders

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective The objective of this study was to compare clinical features and prognosis of late‐onset neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (LO‐NMOSD, onset age ≥60 years) with adult‐onset NMOSD (AO‐NMOSD, onset age 18–59 years), and to provide insights for individualized management in elderly patients.

Gi Protein Modulation of the Potassium Channel TASK-2 Mediates Vesicle Osmotic Swelling to Facilitate the Fusion of Aquaporin-2 Water Channel Containing Vesicles

open access: yesCells, 2018
Vesicle fusion is a fundamental cell biological process similar from yeasts to humans. For secretory vesicles, swelling is considered a step required for the expulsion of intravesicular content.

Marked central nervous system pathology in CD59 knockout rats following passive transfer of Neuromyelitis optica immunoglobulin G. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (herein called NMO) is an inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system in which pathogenesis involves complement-dependent cytotoxicity (CDC) produced by immunoglobulin G autoantibodies ...

Aquaporin-2 water channels in spontaneously hypertensive rats [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hypertension, 2004
Vasopressin (AVP), an antidiuretic hormone, is known to induce hypervolemia and to regulate the renal expression of aquaporin-2 (AQP2) water channels, but it is not yet known whether the latter are involved in the pathogenesis of essential hypertension.

Comprehending the Membrane Properties for Emulation in Organs‐on‐a‐Chip

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
The advent of organ‐on‐chip models allows closer emulation of in vivo conditions, leading to effective, less costly, and specific drugs. Although a number of membrane‐based on‐chip models exist, better emulating functional models need to be devised for organ simulations.

In silico analysis of molecular mimicry between human aquaporin 3, Aspergillus fumigatus aquaporin and aquaporins from allergic sources [version 2; peer review: 2 approved]

open access: yesF1000Research
Background Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that has a significant impact on quality of life. The immune response and allergy symptoms in AD are triggered by the recognition of specific allergens by IgE antibodies.
