Convergence of Aquatic Feeding Modes in the Sauropsida (Crocodiles, Birds, Lizards, Snakes and, Turtles) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
The Sauropsida includes the extant crocodiles, birds, turtles, lizards and snakes. With roughly 30,000 described species, it is not only the largest phylogenetic group within Amniota, but the largest extant group within all tetrapods.

Climate change and body size trends in aquatic and terrestrial endotherms: Does habitat matter? [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Several studies have claimed that reduction in body size comprises a nearly universal response to global warming; however, doubts about the validity of this pattern for endothermic species have been raised recently.

Review of helminths from rare aquatic birds in Ukraine

open access: yesZoodiversity, 2020
Helminth fauna of aquatic bird has well studied on the territory of Ukraine. The data on the helminths of rare waterfowl are contained in numerous faunistic works. But there are no publications in which only helminths of rare aquatic birds are considered.

Assessment of heavy metal exposure risk to aquatic birds in the key wetland habitats of the Yellow River (China), using an integrated model

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation
Heavy metal pollution poses a growing threat to wetland ecosystems, impacting their structure and function. Chenqiao Wetland and Qinglong Lake (Henan, China), key bird habitats in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, were analyzed for heavy ...

Aquatic birds and their food: a conservation approach

open access: yes, 2023
Birds are excellent environmental indicator. They are verysensitive to their habitat. If any changes occur in their habitat, they easily sense that. Changes in the bird populations are often the first indication of environmental problems. Food forbirds playsa vital role in the conservation aspect.

Broadening the semiaquatic scene: Quantification of long bone microanatomy across pinnipeds

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Investigations of bone microanatomy are commonly used to explore lifestyle strategies in vertebrates. While distinct microanatomical limb bone features have been established for exclusively aquatic and terrestrial lifestyles, identifying clear patterns for the semiaquatic lifestyle remains more challenging.

Detection and Phylogenetic Analysis of Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamase (ESBL)-Genetic Determinants in Gram-Negative Fecal-Microbiota of Wild Birds and Chicken Originated at Trimmu Barrage

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2023
Extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBL) give rise to resistance against penicillin and cephalosporin antibiotics in multiple bacterial species. The present study was conducted to map genetic determinants and related attributes of ESBL-producing bacteria in
