Effects of water nutrients on regeneration capacity of submerged aquatic plant fragments

open access: yes, 2014
Aquatic plants play a substantial role in almost all freshwater habitats throughout the world. Even though submerged aquatic plants dominantly spread by the dispersal of vegetative plant fragments, most aquatic plant species show a broad distribution ...

Wood Reconfiguration Enables Broadband Blackbody in Large‐Area, Modular, Optically Welded Carbon Constructs

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Wood‐based broadband blackbody is achieved by reconfiguration of wood with lignin nanoparticles prior carbonization. Neglectable reflectivity from the visible to infrared wavelengths is obtained by combining thin nanostructures originated from the wood cell walls with long‐range microcavities in the wood lumina.

Biomass Native Structure Into Functional Carbon‐Based Catalysts for Fenton‐Like Reactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study indicates that eight biomasses with 2D flaky and 1D acicular structures influence surface O types, morphology, defects, N doping, sp2 C, and Co nanoparticles loading in three series of carbon, N‐doped carbon, and cobalt/graphitic carbon. This work identifies how these structural factors impact catalytic pathways, enhancing selective electron

Estimation of growth and financial analysis through the application of Ipil ipil (Leucaena leucocephala) leaf meal as supplements to soybean and fish meal in the diet of juvenile monosex tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Among plant protein ingredients, ipil ipil (Leucaena leucocephala) leafmeal (ILLM) is considered the most nutritive plant protein source after soybean meal in aquatic feeds.

Local ciliate communities associated with aquatic macrophytes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This study, based within the catchment area of the River Frome, an important chalk stream in the south of England, compared ciliated protozoan communities associated with three species of aquatic macrophyte common to lotic habitats: Ranunculus ...

Alginate‐Sludge Derived Biochar‐Calcium Hydrogel for Phosphate Removal and Slow‐Release Fertilizer: A Sustainable and Multifunctional Solution

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An alginate‐based biochar hydrogel (ABC‐hydrogel), derived from sewage sludge, is developed for simultaneous phosphate removal and agricultural reuse. It captures phosphorus from water and gradually releases it as fertilizer, enhancing lettuce growth.

Cat‐Vibrissa‐Inspired Biomass Fiber Aerogels for Flexible and Highly Sensitive Sensors in Monitoring Human Sport

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by cat vibrissae, biomimetic biomass PHFs/SA aerogels (BFAs) are developed via precursor‐assisted in situ polymerization and freeze‐synergistic assembly. These ultralight, porous pressure sensors exhibit high sensitivity and excellent durability, enabling pulse detection, handwriting recognition, Morse code transmission, and notably real‐time ...

Physical Constraints to Aquatic Plant Growth in New Zealand Lakes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The nature of aquatic plant communities often defines benthic habitat within oligotrophic and mesotrophic lakes and lake management increasingly recognizes the importance of maintaining plant diversity in order to sustain biological diversity and ...
