In this study, the concentration-dependent joint action of chromium (Cr) and salt (NaCl), two important environmental stressors, was examined in aquatic plants. Ceratophyllum demersum L. plants were exposed to Cr (0–10 mM) for 5 days in the presence and absence of NaCl (0–500 mM).

Heavy metal adsorption properties of a submerged aquatic plant ( Ceratophyllum demersum )
Bioresource Technology, 2004Heavy metals can be adsorbed by living or non-living biomass. Submerged aquatic plants can be used for the removal of heavy metals. In this paper, lead, zinc, and copper adsorption properties of Ceratophyllum demersum (Coontail or hornwort) were investigated and results were compared with other aquatic submerged plants.

As a new and efficient selective pre-emergence herbicide, flurochloridone (FLC) has been widely promoted in recent years but readily results in residues in nature. As the primary producers and restorers of the water environment, aquatic plants are at risk of FLC exposure.

Schistosomiasis is one of the most important parasitic diseases in tropical and subtropical areas. Its prevalence is associated with the distribution of freshwater snails, which are their intermediate hosts. Thus, control of freshwater snails is the solution to reduce the transmission of this disease.
