Current Concepts on Aqueous Misdirection

Current Ophthalmology Reports, 2020
To review the current understanding of the pathophysiology and management of aqueous misdirection syndrome. Aqueous misdirection syndrome represents a spectrum of disorders that converge on a common pathway of increasing posterior segment pressure and secondary angle closure glaucoma. Although the etiology of aqueous misdirection remains unclear and is

Current Concepts on Aqueous Misdirection

Current Ophthalmology Reports, 2019
In this article, we review the pathophysiology and recent advances in the management of aqueous misdirection. Aqueous misdirection remains a rarely encountered and incompletely understood ophthalmologic problem. Despite advances in surgical techniques, with a great variety of interventions available to surgeons, durable success is limited with ...

Aqueous misdirection syndrome: A complication of neodymium:YAG posterior capsulotomy

Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 1994
A 50-year-old, white, pseudophakic man who had a neodymium:YAG (Nd:YAG) posterior capsulotomy for capsule opacification developed a persistent rise in intraocular pressure (IOP) associated with a flat anterior chamber. Full-thickness patent iridotomy performed with an Nd:YAG laser did not reduce IOP. A-scan ultrasonography showed aqueous pockets in the

Slit-Lamp Needle Revision for Aqueous Misdirection after Trabeculectomy

Journal of Glaucoma, 2002
To describe a slit-lamp needle procedure for the management of aqueous misdirection after trabeculectomy in which more conventional therapies have failed. The pathophysiology of aqueous misdirection and explanation for the efficacy of this procedure are reviewed. Two patients in whom aqueous misdirection developed after trabeculectomy refractory to ...

Hypotonous Malignant Glaucoma: Aqueous Misdirection With Low Intraocular Pressure

Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 2008
Two patients who underwent trabeculectomy and postoperatively manifested axially shallow anterior chamber associated with hypotony but without choroidal effusion are described. The first patient was treated conservatively with topical cycloplegics. The second patient was treated with pars plana anterior vitrectomy.

Misdirected aqueous flow in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment: A pathophysiology update

Survey of Ophthalmology, 2015
It is widely accepted that the origin of subretinal fluid in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) is liquid vitreous and that posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) and associated retinal tears are caused by vitreoretinal traction from intra-ocular currents, contraction of collagen fibers, and gravity. These explanations, however, are incomplete.

Annular Peripheral Choroidal Detachment Simulating Aqueous Misdirection after Glaucoma Surgery

Ophthalmology, 1997
The purpose of the study was to define a newly recognized complication after glaucoma surgery and to recommend a therapeutic regimen.Eighteen patients diagnosed initially as having aqueous misdirection after glaucoma surgery, but who subsequently were found by ultrasonography to have an annular peripheral choroidal detachment that resulted in secondary

AQUEOUS MISDIRECTION SYNDROME AFTER PARS PLANA VITRECTOMY FOR RETINAL DETACHMENT

RETINAL Cases & Brief Reports, 2008
Aqueous misdirection syndrome (AMS) typically occurs after surgery for angle closure glaucoma, or surgery in hyperopic eyes with narrow angles. Pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) is often considered the definitive treatment for AMS. The authors describe a rare case of AMS developing de novo after PPV in an eye without any prior history of AMS, angle closure ...
