Unrestricted Bridge (U‐Bridge) Designs for Settings with Non‐deterministic Data

open access: yesQuality and Reliability Engineering International, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We propose a simple method to generate designs for continuous factors when the response data are noisy. Our “unrestricted bridge (U‐bridge) designs” are closely related to the bridge designs of Jones et al., but are much easier to construct.

Cold‐Water Thermal Refuge Enhancement and Creation for Salmonids: Successes, Failures, and Lessons Learned

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As rivers continue to warm due to climate change, there is an urgent need for coordinated approaches to enhance the thermal resiliency of riverscapes. Cold‐water refuges (CWRs) serve as critical habitats for temperature‐sensitive aquatic species, yet efforts to enhance or create these refuges often lack a unified framework, risking a ...

A Process Based Modeling Approach to Assess Temperature Impacts of Riparian Vegetation Management in a Southwestern Wisconsin Trout Stream

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rising water temperatures driven by climate change threaten culturally and economically important salmonid fisheries throughout the Upper Midwest. Unsuitable thermal regimes degrade the effectiveness of habitat restoration projects in the region, thus strategies for mitigating peak summer stream temperatures are of interest to state and non ...

Modeling an Aquifer: Numerical Solution to the Groundwater Flow Equation

open access: yes, 2019
We present a model of groundwater dynamics under stationary flow and governed by Darcy's Law of water motion through porous media, we apply it to study a 2D aquifer with water table of constant slope comprised of an homogeneous and isotropic media, the ...

Instream Large Wood Enhances the Benefits of e‐Floods in Regulated Mountain Rivers

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Environmental high flows, or e‐floods, released from dams are a key management strategy to mitigate the impacts of dam regulation and restore aquatic and riparian habitats. While there is extensive literature on the design and implementation of e‐floods, the role of instream large wood—downed trees, trunks, branches, and root wads—in enhancing
