Preliminary Investigation of the Ground-Water Resources of Northern Searcy County, Arkansas [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
Two aquifers are extensively used by residents of small communities and rural areas in northern Searcy County, Arkansas. The Mississippian Boone-St. Joe aquifer is generally the less productive and the shallower of the two.

Study on the diffusion and migration law of CO2 sequestrated in abandoned coal mine goaf

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The goaf of an abandoned coal mine, endowed with expansive fracture spaces and an abundance of residual coal, can be capable of sequestrating substantial quantities of CO2. The residual coal is the principal medium for the sequestration of CO2 in the form of adsorption and the amount of sequestration is considerable.

A multiscale modeling study for the convective mass transfer in a subsurface aquifer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Quantitative and realistic computer simulations of mass transfer associated with CO2 disposal in subsurface aquifers is a challenging endeavor. This article has proposed a novel and efficient multiscale modeling framework, and has examined its potential to study the pen- etrative mass transfer in a CO2 plume that migrates in an aquifer.

Urea ammonium nitrate placement methods, row patterns, and irrigation effects on corn productivity in a humid subtropical region

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences & Environment
Crop yields are adversely affected by nitrogen (N) losses in humid subtropical regions. This study was conducted to determine whether N dynamics could be manipulated through planting geometry and fertilizer placement. The effects of irrigation (irrigated

Drivers of Spatiotemporal Patterns of Riparian Forest NDVI Along a Hydroclimatic Gradient

open access: yesEcohydrology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In the context of rising global temperatures and their impact on weather patterns and water cycles, understanding the relationship between vegetation and hydroclimatic forcing is critical. Riparian forests are highly vulnerable to hydroclimatic variability, which can significantly affect water availability in the soil on which they primarily ...

Semi-Analytical Modeling of Transient Stream Drawdown and Depletion in Response to Aquifer Pumping [PDF]

open access: yes
Analytical and semi-analytical models for stream depletion with transient stream stage drawdown induced by groundwater pumping are developed to address a deficiency in existing models, namely, the use of a fixed stream stage condition at the stream-aquifer interface.

Assessment of the development of aquifer management councils (COTAS) for sustainable groundwater management in Guanajuato, Mexico [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Collective groundwater management by water users—self-regulation—is increasingly advocated as a complement to state regulation. This article analyzes the attempts by the Guanajuato State Water Commission (CEAG) in central Mexico to promote user self ...

Soil-aquifer phenomena affecting groundwater under vertisols: a review

open access: yes, 2015
. Vertisols are cracking clayey soils that (i) usually form in alluvial lowlands where, normally, groundwater pools into aquifers; (ii) have different types of voids (due to cracking), which make flow and transport of water, solutes and gas complex; and (
