A Leaky Aquifer Model For Hard Rock Aquifers

Hydrogeology Journal, 1994
A comparison is made between the unsteady parallel fracture model using the double porosity approach and the anisotropic aquifer-water table aquitard system. The presence of a moving water table in the weathered zone (unconfined block), influenced by recharge from rainfall or other sources and leakage to the fracture zone, is discussed.

Mapping Aquifer Vulnerability

Symposium on the Application of Geophysics to Engineering and Environmental Problems 2006, 2006
In this presentation, we discuss geophysical methods for general vulnerability mapping of aquifers. The vulnerability of aquifers is to a large degree determined by the content of clay minerals in the near surface geology. Clay minerals have a large cation exchange capacity (CEC) and clayey sediments reduce the infiltration speed thus reducing the ...

Estrogen in a Karstic Aquifer

Groundwater, 2004
Abstract Adverse impacts on the health of some fish populations, such as skewed sex distributions, have been noted in surface waters and in laboratory experiments with relatively low concentrations (above 25 ng/L) of natural estrogen (17 β‐estradiol—E2). Sources of E2 to surface and ground waters can include avian,

Aquifer storage and recovery in the Edwards Aquifers, Texas

2019
ABSTRACT Aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) is a proven water-supply strategy that uses an aquifer to store surplus water that will be available for later use when that stored water is needed. Although only three ASR systems are currently operating in Texas, recent incentives from the state, along with changes in regulatory framework ...

Geological control on aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) feasibility and efficiency in carbonate aquifers (Edwards aquifer and Floridan aquifer)

Aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) is increasingly being used to enhance freshwater security and sustainability. Though proven technology, ASR implementation and efficiency are mainly controlled by the aquifer system's geological characteristics. Aquifer or reservoir quality, aquifer geochemistry and heterogeneity, and ASR-induced stress exerted on ...

A Distance‐Drawdown Aquifer Test Method for Aquifers with Areal Anisotropy

Groundwater, 2005
Abstract A new distance‐drawdown method for aquifers with anisotropy on the horizontal plane is presented. The method uses scalar transformation to convert to an equivalent, isotropic medium, thus permitting application of the Cooper‐Jacob Method.

Managed aquifer recharge of a karstic aquifer in Nardò, Italy

2012
Main problems in the Salento peninsula are related to the increase of water table depths and to the groundwater salinization due to over abstractions and sea water intrusion, as it is shown in Figure 4.2. At several places of the Salento coastal area the electrical conductivity of the groundwater already exceeds 15,000 ?S/cm.
