Analysis of Parameters of an Unconfined Aquifer

Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1966
The relationship between the parameters of a homogeneous, isotropic unconfined aquifer are described by dimensional analysis. A dimensionless form of the nonlinear differential equation governing the flow of groundwater toward a fully penetrating well in an infinite unconfined aquifer is solved numerically.

Aquifer Parameter Identification Using Stochastic Approximation

1982
Identification of diffusivity distribution in an inhomogenous aquifer from groundwater level fluctuations using stochastic approximation is presented. Equation governing the radial ground water flow is suitably modified into a state-space formulation using an explicit finite difference scheme.

Estimating streambed and aquifer parameters from a stream/aquifer analysis test

2003
The Tamarack State Wildlife Area in eastern Colorado is being investigated as a possible managed recharge project to redirect flows in the South Platte River for water quantity management. Two primary surface water/groundwater interactions exist at Tamarack: (1) between the South Platte River and alluvial aquifer and (2) between backwater sloughs, or ...

Quasilinearization and the Identification of Aquifer Parameters

Water Resources Research, 1971
A new computational procedure based on observations at observation wells is presented to solve the problem of identifying aquifer parameters. This new procedure (quasilinearization), originally developed by Bellman and Kalaba, is an effective way to convert the observations directly to aquifer parameters.

Estimating Aquifer Parameters for Large‐Diameter Wells

Groundwater, 1981
ABSTRACT Two alternative methods of analyzing the response of large‐diameter wells are considered—the curve matching technique based on analytical solutions and the use of a numerical model. For ideal situations the methods give the same results but for unconfined aquifers where the decrease in saturated depth is significant, the ...

Numerical Identification of Parameters in Leaky Aquifers

Groundwater, 1989
ABSTRACT A method using the nonlinear least‐squares and finite‐ difference Newton's method is presented to identify the parameters from pumping tests in homogeneous and isotropic leaky aquifers both for the situations with and without storage effects in the aquitard.

Cost- and time-effective methodology to evaluate aquifer parameters in coastal aquifers

2012
The increasing request of freshwater in coastal areas due to intense anthropization has intensified the research on saltwater intrusion. A sustainable groundwater management requires the estimation of some fundamental aquifer parameters (such as hydraulic conductivity) and their variability in order to quantify the magnitude and direction of ...

Calculation of aquifer parameters from sparse data

Water Resources Research, 1979
Automatic methods used for the calibration of regional groundwater models are notoriously sensitive to inadequacies in hydrological data used to determine the groundwater regime. The situation is often aggravated by errors introduced by manual interpolation to give estimates of piezometric head between observation boreholes, particularly in areas where

Determination of aquifer parameters from well tides

Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 1979
An equation for the specific storage of an inland artesian aquifer of infinite extent is developed from a consideration of the tidal dilatation of an idealized well‐aquifer system. It was found that for a particular tidal frequency the specific storage Ss is related to tidal water level and barometric pressure fluctuations according to the relationship

Estimation of uranium migration parameters in sandstone aquifers

Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, 2016
The chemical composition and isotopes of carbon and uranium were investigated in groundwater samples that were collected from 16 wells and 2 sources in the Northern Dvina Basin, Northwest Russia. Across the dataset, the temperatures in the groundwater ranged from 3.6 to 6.9 °C, the pH ranged from 7.6 to 9.0, the Eh ranged from -137 to +128 mV, the ...
