琉璃金刚鹦鹉(Ara ararauna)分布于南美洲的巴拿马东部至巴拉圭地区,整个上体琉璃蓝色、下体黄色,拖着长长的楔状大尾,全长可达90厘米,是颇受人们喜爱的大型珍稀观赏鸟。随着野生动物饲养事业的发展,各地动物园不断从国外引进,但达到人工繁殖的不多。北京动物园饲养金刚鹦鹉类的大型美丽鸟约30年的历史。1978年首次繁殖成功,并做了祥细观察。虽然时隔数年,对国内繁殖大型鹦鹉仍具有一定参考价值,特总结如下:
