Off line Arabic character recognition: a survey
Proceedings of the Fourth International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, 2002Machine simulation of human reading has been the subject of intensive research for almost three decades. A large number of research papers and reports have already been published on Latin, Chinese and Japanese characters. However, little work has been conducted on the automatic recognition of Arabic characters because of the complexity of printed and ...

Arabic Character Recognition Based M-SVM: Review
International Conference on Advanced Machine Learning Technologies and Applications, 2014Optical Character Recognition Systems (OCR) provide human-machine interaction and are widely used in many applications. Classification is the most important step in an OCR system. Support Vectors Machines (SVM) is among the tool of classification that appears these days.

Recognition of Arabic characters
IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 1992A statistical approach for the recognition of Arabic characters is introduced. As a first step, the character is segmented into primary and secondary parts (dots and zigzags). The secondary parts of the character are then isolated and identified separately, thereby reducing the number of classes from 28 to 18. The moments of the horizontal and vertical

Investigation on deep learning for off-line handwritten Arabic character recognition
Cognitive Systems Research, 2017Handwritten character recognition is a system widely used in the modern world and it is still an important challenge. Traditional machine-learning techniques require careful engineering and considerable domain expertise to transform raw data into a ...

High-performance Arabic character recognition
Journal of Systems and Software, 1998The design and development of any character recognition system aim to satisfy two goals. The first is to correctly recognize characters (recognition accuracy). The second is to minimize the execution time of the recognition process (recognition speed).

A recognition-based Arabic optical character recognition system
SMC'98 Conference Proceedings. 1998 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (Cat. No.98CH36218), 2002Optical character recognition systems improve human-machine interaction and are widely used in many government and commercial departments. After forty years of intensive research, OCR systems for most scripts are well developed. However, not for Arabic script. Since Arabic is a popular script, Arabic OCR systems should have great commercial value. Thus

Recognition Of Hand Written Arabic Characters
SPIE Proceedings, 1988This paper introduces a novel statistical approach for recognizing handwritten Arabic characters. The proposed method involves, as a first step, digitization of the segmented character. The secondary characters are then isolated and identified separately thereby reducing the recognition issue to a 20 class problem.

Recognition of handwritten cursive Arabic characters
IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 1994An automatic off-line character recognition system for handwritten cursive Arabic characters is presented. A robust noise-independent algorithm is developed that yields skeletons that reflect the structural relationships of the character components. The character skeleton is converted to a tree structure suitable for recognition.
