Omnifont arabic optical character recognition system

Proceedings. 2004 International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies: From Theory to Applications, 2004., 2004
Optical character recognition systems (OCR) contribute tremendously to the advancement of office automation, provide an easy to use man-machine interface. The solution used in this paper for the problem of Arabic character recognition is insensitive to scale, slight distortions (rotation and misalignment) and limited noise.

An Optimized Approach for Handwritten Arabic Character Recognition based on the SVM Classifier

Engineering, Technology & Applied Science Research
Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is an essential technology, capable of addressing complex challenges while simplifying numerous human activities. Although it emerged in the 1970s with various solutions, these efforts primarily focused on Latin-based ...

Hand printed Arabic character recognition system

Proceedings of the 12th IAPR International Conference on Pattern Recognition (Cat. No.94CH3440-5), 2002
The paper proposes a structural technique for automatic recognition of hand printed Arabic characters. The advantages of this technique are: more efficient for large and complex sets such as Arabic characters; not expensive for feature extraction; and its execution time does not depend on either the font or the size of the characters. The algorithm was

Real-time arabic handwritten character recognition

Pattern Recognition, 1990
Abstract This paper considers the development of a real-time Arabic handwritten character recognition system. The shape of an Arabic character depends on its position in a given word. The system assumes that characters result from a reliable segmentation stage, thus, the position of the character is known a priori.

SemiBoost-based Arabic character recognition method

SPIE Proceedings, 2011
A SemiBoost-based character recognition method is introduced in order to incorporate the information of unlabeled practical samples in training stage. One of the key problems in semi-supervised learning is the criteria of unlabeled sample selection.

Radon transformation for Arabic character recognition

2008 International Conference on Computer and Communication Engineering, 2008
In this paper an algorithm adopted the properties given by Radon transformation studied to be used by an optical character recognition system for printed Arabic characters. The algorithm gets a high difference between the character features which was extracted by Radon transformation, when it was applied on isolated Arabic characters.

A system for Arabic character recognition

Proceedings of ANZIIS '94 - Australian New Zealnd Intelligent Information Systems Conference, 2002
In this paper, a method for automatic recognition of isolated characters is presented. In this system, the character matrix is circularly scanned, and the number of ON pixels around each circle is obtained and saved in a vector. A feedforward neural network is trained by backpropagation to recognize these vectors.

Arabic Character Recognition Using Gabor Filters

2009
A technique for the Automatic recognition of Arabic characters using Gabor filters is presented. K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) is used for classification. Although KNN is a simple classifier, the achieved recognition rates proved that Gabor filters are effective in the classification of Arabic characters.

Evaluation Approach of Arabic Character Recognition

International Journal of Computer Vision and Image Processing, 2011
This paper proposes and contributes towards designing a complete system for off-line Arabic character recognition. The proposed system is specifically meant for Arabic handwriting recognition, but it equally works for the typed character recognition. It has various phases including preprocessing and segmentation.
