Intelligent system for Arabic character recognition

2009 World Congress on Nature & Biologically Inspired Computing (NaBIC), 2009
In this work, a new system for Arabic letter recognition is designed and implemented. New approaches for segmentation, processing, classification and hence recognition of characters and scripts are shown. The research concentrates on two important subjects: First, segmentation on the basis of word histogram and baseline estimation - a convenient ...

A Survey on Arabic Handwritten Character Recognition

SN Computer Science, 2020
There are much heavy studies on handwritten character recognition (HCR) for nearly previous four decades. The research on some of the common script like Arabic, Indian and Chinese has been done. This manuscript presents a survey of character recognition on Arabic script, and most of the popular published paper methods are summarized and also analyzed ...

Automatic recognition of isolated Arabic characters

Signal Processing, 1988
Abstract In this paper, a recognition system has been developed for the recognition of isolated typewritten Arabic characters. The outer contour of each character is traced using a contour-following algorithm that leads to 8-connected contours. A set of Fourier descriptors is obtained from the coordinate sequences of the contour points.

Printed Arabic character recognition using HMM

Journal of Computer Science and Technology, 2004
The Arabic Language has a very rich vocabulary. More than 200 million people speak this language as their native speaking, and over 1 billion people use it in several religion-related activities. In this paper a new technique is presented for recognizing printed Arabic characters.

On-line recognition of handwritten Arabic characters

IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 1990
Arabic characters are always in cursive script. Handwritten words were entered into an IBM PC via a graphics tablet and a segmentation process applied to the points; the length and the slope of each segment was then found, and the slope categorized into one of four directions. In the learning process, specifications on the strokes of each character are

Character recognition of Arabic and Latin scripts

2000 IEEE Conference on Information Visualization. An International Conference on Computer Visualization and Graphics, 2002
The goal to produce effective optical character recognition (OCR) methods has led to the development of a number of algorithms. The purpose of these is to take the handwritten or printed text and to translate it into a corresponding digital form. The multitude requirements and developments are well represented in the literature (I.S.I. Abuhaiba et al.,

Comparative systems of handwriting Arabic character recognition

2014 Second World Conference on Complex Systems (WCCS), 2014
Handwriting Arabic character recognition is one of the most challenging and complex tasks of research in Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and little research has been achieved in this area in the past few decades. This is due to the cursive nature of Arabic writing and the lack of public Arabic handwriting databases.

Arabic character recognition based on MCR

1995
In this paper we propose an off-line recognition system for machine printed Arabic characters based on the Minimum Covering Run expression method (MCR). The recognition is achieved by matching to reference prototypes. We report a recognition rate of 97.5% and possibility of generalising the system to other symbols and characters.

Optical character recognition of arabic printed text

2012 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD), 2012
Optical character recognition (OCR) systems improve human- machine interaction. They are widely used in many areas such as editing and storing previously printed or handwritten documents. Much of research has been done regarding the identification of Latin, Japanese and Chinese characters. However, very little investigation has been performed regarding
