Yarmouk Arabic OCR Dataset

2018 8th International Conference on Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT), 2018
Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is the process of recognizing characters automatically from scanned or image documents. OCR software uses machine learning to recognize characters in the document. Such software needs to pass a training phase to learn how to recognize the letters in the text.

Arabic OCR evaluation tool

2016 7th International Conference on Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT), 2016
Performance evaluation of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) systems is an essential task for OCR systems development. However, studies in Arabic OCR suffer from the lack of proper performance evaluation metrics and the availability of evaluation tools.

Thinning algorithms for Arabic OCR

Proceedings of IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications Computers and Signal Processing, 2002
The development of effective thinning algorithms for the purpose of development of Arabic OCR (optical character recognition) is considered. Two parallel thinning algorithms are presented. One is based on local operations to detect edge points, end-points, and break-points.

AVOCR: Arabic video OCR

2010 5th International Symposium On I/V Communications and Mobile Network, 2010
Nowadays the majority of TV channels are performing digitization of their archival materials. The digitization enhances preservation of records and makes the access to documents easier. However, when the quantity of documents become important the digitization is not enough to insure an efficient access.

A New Strategy for Arabic OCR

Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Digital Access to Textual Cultural Heritage, 2019
Current OCR has limited capability for Arabic because of script models lacking scientific basis. We propose a new OCR strategy for Arabic, based on 1. Islamic script grammar including extended shaping and 2. treating Arabic script as a multi-layered writing system. We analyse Arabic script as an allographic rendering of graphemic abstractions. Synthetic data for Arabic OCR system development

Proceedings of Sixth International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, 2002
A system for the automatic generation of synthetic databases for the development or evaluation of Arabic word or text recognition systems (Arabic OCR) is presented. The proposed system works without any scanning of printed paper. Firstly Arabic text has to be typeset using a standard typesetting system.

Robust metrics for evaluating arabic OCR systems

International Image Processing, Applications and Systems Conference, 2014
Evaluating OCR software is an important task to test the accuracy and to compare the strengths and weaknesses of distinct OCR systems. Research in the past has been done to compare the performance of OCR systems, all metrics used before dependent only on the character accuracy.

Preparing Persian/Arabic Scanned Images for OCR

2006 2nd International Conference on Information & Communication Technologies, 2006
Digital documents are widely used today. So converting written documents such as books to digital documents is unavoidable. The most popular method for doing this is OCR. Usually documents are scanned and then scanned images are sent to OCR. Scanned images need some preprocessing in order to be used in OCR efficiently.
